Is is possible to fit an AC unit in a Model A gas tank?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Spyder, Mar 26, 2010.

  1. Anyone ever put an AC unit inside the original dash gas tank in a '28-'29 Ford? It seems like maybe it's too small. Say what you must about Hot Rods not having AC, Houston gets HOT.

You might be able to use one of the aux. type ac units found in the back of conversion vans and limos. I know that could be made to fit.

I have put 1000 mini's from Vintage Air in Model A's. Not much room, gut the tank and it fit in there. I put the gen ll in 33-34 the mite fit in a model a. You will see most of the box.

Mostly it sounds like fitting an evaporator and getting air flow in, and out to passenger area are the "dimensional" issues

  13. The lowbuck guy could look at rear A/C units from minvans or like a Chevy Suburban, I know the Suburban one isn't that big under the plastic housing, and uses a lot of standard GM connections and so forth.

  16. An early compressor would look better, heavy though.
