Trying to help a friend out. He has an original 1962 Corvette cast iron 327 intake manifold part # 3799349, GM1/ 2-2-61. From my research it fits a 327/300 HP engine. I have a Carter AFB carb. # 3721SB. Is this the correct carb. for this intake manifold? I'm going to sell it for him to help him get some money, (he has cancer) and if I'm going to advertise it as a correct carb. and intake for a 62 Corvette I want to make sure everything is correct. Also, is Chevy orange the correct color for this intake? Thanks for your help on this guys.

Well, yes and no, it depends.

The ORIGINAL 1962 carbs would have been:
    3269s S/T
    3310s A/T

The above were one year only. In 1963, these applications became:
    3460s A/T
    3461s S/T

The above were released as SERVICE REPLACEMENT carbs for the 1962's

Again, one year only. In 1964, we have:
    3720s A/T
    3721s S/T

In late 1964 and for 1965:
    3720sa A/T
    3721sa S/T

    In late 1965, these became:
    3720sb A/T
    3721sb S/T

    In 1966, 3720sb was suggested as a SERVICE REPLACEMENT for 3310s, 3460s, 3720s, and 3720sa; while 3721sb was suggested as a SERVICE REPLACEMEnt for 3269s, 3461s, 3721s, and 3721sa.

    So, original, and big bucks.......no.
Service replacement, BETTER carb, but smaller bucks.......yes

I'll leave the intake question to others, not my field.

    Jon.

  3. The intake is a low HP cast iron Corvette unit used between 61-63, your date code is for a 1961
(one is for sale on ebay for $40.00, blasted and painted)

My research showed it was for a 62-64 Corvette.

That manifold is a 62 300hp 327 manifold, a very good manifold for a street motor. The AFB you have will bolt right onto that manifold. According to the Chevrolet by the numbers book it probably has an X spaced about an inch away from the casting number as it was cast in feb 61 as an experimental manifold. These manifolds were not factory installed before the 62 model year. It is not a real high dollar manifold but it is very different from the low hp manifolds. I would advertise it on one of the Corvette forums.

  6. Anyone know what these 3721S carbs are going for? I have one of them and a 3656S from a 64 Caddy with AC to sell for my dad

I believe that the 3721(x) carbs are becoming like small block Chevys in general, they all came from Corvettes when it comes time to sell one. I just bought a rebuildable core for $65 off of eBay but most were listed for $150+. Last year I bought them for $25-45. Carburetor cores in general seem to be higher this year online but I’ve scored some great deals at our local swap meets, $20-30 for AFB and Holley 4 bbls.
