    from Ireland

    Hi all,
Im 34 from Ireland and have for months been lurking on this forum, and ive literally been blown away by some of the fabrication and 'old tin ressurection' on here; I never knew the US builders went to such lengths before; I used to read custom car mags (uk publications) about 10 years ago (started reading them 20 years ago) and the impression was the US was fill of near prefect old cars, rust not being something in your 'diction'...
I dont own a 'yank' as we call them over here or a rod of any kind; I drifted into the vw aircooled world seeing the rods and customs as something 'unobtainable' as I grew older; the stuff of dreams you could say, and I later drifted into the later vw watercooled 'scene' -I own a 91 vw caddy with a 1.9TD that I bought as as shell and built up; it has some 'hot rod touches'; sorry for talking about an O/T car, but I love the details that go into some of the projects and builds I see on here...
I was working in the 'residentual house building industry' up until 18 months ago and then the 'slow down happened' and work dried up; I previously worked on a production line welding house radiators...
I have my own 'shop as you'd call it which I rent; its 15 miles away from where I live, and equipped with a welder, compressor and the basics tools wise; all collected built up over the years... I take on the odd small job for friends/guys Ive met through the vw world; just enough to pay the bills; the rust repair end is of particular interest to me and I do a bit of it; have an MGB getting sill (rockers!) welded in on both sides down there - again just to keep me busy and help pay the bills...
I plan to emmigrate one day to a country where the roads are better, with more 'straights' and eventually and build/own/run a rod or custom...

sorry for the long winded intro, but thats my story; trying to be as comprehensive as I can...

Welcome from Wisconsin! Gotta say; love your Guinness!

-And if you find yourself landing over here, I suggest the southern states where they don't dump salt all over the roads for over half the year...

Welcome from California from another Paddy (of sorts). Which part of Ireland are you in? I lived over there for a long time. Racing motorcycles. The last residence was in Kilpedder in Wicklow.

Welcome from South Carolina ; my folks came here from Ireland in 1857.
Hope you get a chance to visit us; it might be too hot and humid for you here in the South. But we have great barbecue!

    Hi Kev,

Welcome from Washington State, love your brew. My first car was a 61 Vdub Bug. Got it for 50 bucks and had to move part of the barn that fell on it. I flared the fenders, put moons on it, a 1600cc dual port, and shot it black lacquer.
