Technical Interesting Caddy 3rd member. 1940

Pontiac & Olds pretty much used the same rear axle from '39 up to 1956.
This Caddy piece looks pretty similar in execution to those.
I got a kick out of the lock washer for the axle nut, maybe a cotter pin was to pedestrian?
Also of interest is the way the drum tucks into the backing plate instead of covering it.
Yeh. Heavy!
