Intake Exhaust crossover Gaskets on a Alum intake

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by flatheadfever, Apr 2, 2012.

  1. I am hoping I can be schooled on the exhaust crossover and how to install the gaskets with the sheet metal plates on a sbc.
I picked up a 79 vette alum intake and a set of Elderbrock intake gaskets.
I plan to use the crossover being from the northeast.
I am thinking the little sheet metal plates (with the hole) go under the gasket with the tabs pointing up.
I plan to make a plate to block the ERG valve.
    Thanks for the help.

  2. Yes the tabs go up, the gaskets come with installation instructions. If I recall the gaskets come with two sets of plates one to block the exhaust heat and the other to let it go through.

Remove the EGR valve and block the whole off with a plate.

  3. Okay thanks
I googled the erg question and came up with the answer.
The gaskets came with 2 sets of plates both open. One set has the tabs horizontal and one set vertical. i thought maybe I was suppose to double them up?
The direction are vague and almost generic for all intake gaskets.

  4. You siameese them one on one side and one on the other side of the gasket and bend the tabs.
I normally block mine but it usually doesn't get below the teens here for more than a day or two.
