agreed value with State Farm, not a collector policy, but a "non Primary" vehicle, so I can drive my El Camino whenever, wherever, even use the truck bed as a truck. About 32 dollars a month.

Agreed value with American Family. They also do my wife's car, motorhome, and home. Full year-round coverage with $500 deductible. They would like the mileage not to exceed 6k per year, but otherwise no driving restrictions.

  3. Driveway? they won't insure you if you park it in the driveway.

I have everything I own ins with State Farm. They have always been awesome.

Lets face it, ins is a bargain if you need it, and rip off if you never use it. Talk to guys who have had the unfortunate experience of filling a claim, and only consider the good experiences.

State Farm is Cost effective, and very helpful everytime I have ever filled a claim. None of which where my fault.

I have fire and theft on my current project. $10 grand value. $30 check.

I have a client now, but was with State Farm when he hit a deer with his Roadrunner. A specialty shop was going to fix this obviously and State Farm really beat him up on the repairs. They wanted to depreciate everything, which tells me right there its not a true Agreed Value type policy. They were treating this car just like they would any other vehicle and not a classic. Once car was repaired, he canceled and came to the CHROME program.

  6. I used State Farm and Bobk pointed out it is NOT agreed value. I like them but will look elsewhere for the GMC

I have 3 great experiences when I needed to use my ins. 1 was in Mich (No fault state) I was on vacation. I got rear ended. The out drive of the boat I was trailering was ruined. 2 While in Jacksonville Fla, heading to Orlando Disney vacation, I was side swiped. While towing my Airstream. 3 my house was hit by a tornado or straight line winds. Red cross set up in the neighborhood, I stayed in a hotel. $60 + grand in damage, vintage Airstream totaled, never a squabble... All 3 times my agent was the best.

"** Occasional pleasure use does not mean use for daily driving to and from work or school, routine shopping, etc..."

That's "ridiculous"? Seems pretty reasonable to me.

If you want "daily driver" insurance there are plenty of companies out there that offer it. Hagerty's just not in that business.

I've got State Farm on my beater 95 Escort and 89 rust-bucket F150. Hagerty on my 65 Morgan 4/4. I've got a nice suit for weddings, funerals, and job interviews. Swim trunks for pool parties. Everything works for its intended purpose.

    Peace,
    Warren

  10. Yes. I didn't build a show car that is backed on and off a trailer. When the insurance company tells me that driving it to work on a random day may be denied coverage if there's a claim, it's not useful to me. I don't work for AMIG and have no beef with hagerty. I just want it to be clear to others like me what the restrictions are. I was surprised.

Many folks confuse "stated value" (which allows depreciation) with "Agreed value". (which does depreciate).

If your policy is an agreed value policy, your premium is based on a dollar amount per thousand dollars of agreed coverage. Stu

Grundy for 5 cars, all agreed value. Had a few claims over the years, including a complete repaint of my 51 Mercury after getting caught in a sand storm between Gallup and Grants NM enroute to Viv Las Vegas. No hassle, paid quickly and even paid a supplemental once we started work on the Mercury and found some damage hidden from the claim adjuster. That's my experience, YMMV. Drive my cars everywhere, all the time.

The part you're missing is the difference between occasional use and daily use.

I think all of these collector-car policies have a similar restriction, but their phone reps may be pitching it slightly differently. When I inquired of State Farm I was told their policy only covered driving to/from shows and club events, and "maintenance" driving. I chose Hagerty largely because their policy is much less restrictive.

I have used most over the years and I have found Grundy who has been doing classic cars since 1947.......great customer service, quick claim settlement and the best price.

I had a claim with Hagerty for a fire in my 54 Chevy. It happened on oct 30th and the claim wasn't settled til late February. so I switched to Grundy for same coverage at 1/2 the price.

I used Hagerty for years and come premium time I shopped Grundy. Same coverage for less money from Grundy. After a couple of years I shopped Grundy's plan that covers all my vehicles and saved about $300.00 per year over Grundy/hot rod and Farm Bureau/daily drivers. Hit a deer in my dd and got fast, excellent claim service,.

  22. AMIG & Barlow Insurance

My wife and I have had our classic cars insured with Barlow Insurance Corona Ca for over 18 years, multiple high end classic cars.

Currently a 1963 Dodge 330 appraised and agreed value $104k, 1938 Plymouth appraised and agreed at $89k (both appraised by Jeff Hyman), 2005 Dodge Viper and a 1977 Formula Firebird.

In 18 years I have had three insurance claims:

The first claim being in in 2010 when our 2005 Dodge Viper was rear ended. The driver that rear ended our car his insurance paid for it.

The second claim was in November of 2013 when I was having my 36 Ford aligned at an alignment shop and the technician was field testing the car and the passenger door was not locked and opened, the company's insurance doing the work on the car paid the damage claim.

It was difficult dealing with AMIG back in 2010 and 2013 NOW ITS IMPOSSIBLE!!!

The most recent claim was on July 19th of this year when I hit some debris on the 15 freeway on a rain slick highway blowing the front left tire out and causing the car to spin and TC with the cement divider...no property damage, no other vehicles involved, no injury. A little over $5k in damage.

Barlow Insurance is the agent representing AMIG. I sent Barlow the photos taken on scene, complete detailed report on the accident and all I get back from him is I have to contact the AMIG agent directly, WHAT!!!! REALLY!!!! What is his responsibility???? Just get the account, the commission and DO NOTHING!!!!!??

For over 10 days I have been calling and sending emails to AMIG's agent Robert Baker who never returns calls or emails while my car sits at the body shop.

It's beyond the pale when an insurance company that has had a loyal customer for over 18 years does not even has the professional courtesy to return a call or email.

The true test of an insurance company is how they handle a claim, this experience with AMIG & Barlow is at best the worst.

I have had a great experience with Hagerty so far. Our wagon was rear ended on the way back from a show/road trip. There were no questions asked pertaining to how far away from home I was, why I was driving it, or anything of that nature. They sent an independent adjuster out, took pictures and wrote an estimate, and had a check for me in very short order. One of the parts that was damaged is year specific and wagon specific, so I had concerns about the value they had written for a replacement. If there were any issues finding the part or if it cost more than the written value they cover the difference with a copy of the receipt.

This has been my experience with them. Friendly and no hassle.

  24. American Family Insurance can do it in my state and it gets insured like a real car with a specific value that is agreed upon. Not collector insurance but driver insurance. I can even park it in the driveway if I want, and no mileage limits (unless I am insuring for a lower rate as a low mileage car).

Insurance rate is based on insured value so if you don't think your car is worth much you don't pay much.
