I'm looking to put a V8 60 in my 31' Roadster. I'm sure this has probably been done hundreds of times. I'm looking for some pointers and helpful advise regarding installation, clutch/transmission recommendations, etc.

I went with a C-4 trans with my flathead. I can't use a clutch anymore so an automatic is for me. My brother also had a C-4 with his 60hp.

  3. Check out the displacement on the 60hp. For the 60 its 136 cubic inches, for the 4 banger it is 200 cubic inches and for the 85 HP V8 it is 221 through 255 (http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_home.htm). You would probably be better off with a hopped up 4 banger or an 85 hp V8. At least find one and drive it before you get too far.

Don't mistake THIS picture for a 6o hp flathead !!!! this is a '49-'53 style. A totally different breed !! This engine is Much, Much, physically bigger..

  6. Unless your 60 looks like this one, go with an 85. After building some for vintage midgets, I can tell you that you can build almost anything else cheaper!

  8. Run a full size flathead, the V860 will disappear in front of a model a firewall. Plus they cost a shit ton more to build than the bigger ones which is really saying something as far as flatheads go.

If you really want to go slower, install the 60 horse.

I have been running a v8-60 for several years in a Model A pickup. Fits nicely without having to modify the firewall. I am now building a supercharged v8-60 for my Model A. You can visit my build. https://www.facebook.com/v860hotrod/

    Any questions, happily answered.
