I'm new to car building but I have been welding aircraft structures for 30 years. Most of the 4130 tubing I weld is .028 & .035 wall. I'm kind of looking forward to welding thick stuff.
I'll tell you guys, take good care of your eyes, once you start to not be able to read without cheaters this stuff gets a hell of a lot harder to do. It will be a shame to lose just a touch of the edge off some of these, some real art.

you see that white residue? that looks like zinc from the galvanized steel case material. should really be careful welding that to not breathe the fumes. the sweet taste of zinc poisoning. I can tell though I need about another 5 bottles of argon worth of practice before I could even post up on this thread
That last pipe I believe I used a big disc sander, the previous one I posted I think I used a die grinder. His stuff is sick, I love the way he weaves aluminum. Here is part II of the commissioned set I'm doing.
Looks like the scales of a Silver Arrowana, a South American Amazon fish, even has all of the colors. As this thread progresses you are getting even better or shall I say even sicker.
I think when this thread started I was Millwright at an auto plant that welded as much as I could, which was 5-15 hours a week on average(just a guess) Now I'm working for a prototype shop welding all day 7 days a week Part III of the 3 piece set. And a couple other pieces:

jdustu- Your work is INCREDIBLE. I cannot find the words to describe how beautiful it is. The way you weave is amazing. I have worked in aerospace for almost 30 years working on high-dollar prototypes, and I have yet to see any work as nice as yours. Some of those parts are well into the 6 and 7 figure range, too. My album has some shots of the welding my buddy did on the suspension on my '55. I'm a big fan of TIG welds. The only problem is, if you TIG anything on your car, then you are almost committed to TIG welding everything in order to make it all look right.

just found this thread, I'll try to get some pictures of the stainless work I do, welding for holland 1916 currently, doing consoles for electrical equipment on offshore gas and oil rigs.
My first post. Name is Adam... I live in Canada. I'm a CWB and T.S.S.A cert'd welder in TIG, FC & MC, and stick... Here some of my TIG welds from college a few years ago. These were vertical ups and over heads. I don't remember the exact specs. These were some practice plates before my CWB certs 1/4 mild steel plates. 3/32nd 2% thoriated. 3/32nd er70s filler... 140amps maybe? done on a Hypertherm inverter TIG... Camera: Nikon D80 with 18-55 lens? I think... Welds are about 3 years old or so..
yea don't use that galvanized stuff, it will make you sick really fast, it also leaves a mess trying to weld it
