Hot Rods IMAGES OF "THE GOOD OLD DAYS"- OUR MISSPENT YOUTH

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, May 21, 2020.

  1. This photo reminds me of my youth working on a car with the help of a friend and I suspect a lot of you guys can relate, you learned by doing, trial and error. :)

The cars have changed over the years but the experience had made us the type of guys we are. HRP

Browny box pic of a buddy"Buster" stealing gas out of his Mom's car. Buster only had his 50 Chevy coupe for two weeks, before finding out he could not buy enough gas for it,an stone broke. Took pic as a joke, after all what are buddy's for LOL

  6. That photo speaks volumes, I was guilty of using my free gas procurement tool (4 foot piece of rubber hose) on many occasions, a favorite target was a friends older brother. HRP

IMG_0928.JPG 36 Ford drag car we built in my Grandpas garage as 16-17 year olds. Originally flathead powered but later swapped out with a 327. I'm the skinny guy in the middle.

Isn’t there already several threads that divulge this. Some off the top is vintage shots from days gone by or no explication needed, as they were, and I could mention others. Another really doesn’t drive home anything new other than another thread. Personally vintage shots gives all that’s needed with explanation when needed.

When I moved out I had an apartment with a 428 Pontiac motor in pieces in my dining room along with other parts. In fact I lived above a westco store and asked to borrow a dolly, the manager ask why and I told him. He thought I was teasing until I headed for the elevator with the block and crank and he started laughing his butt off.

At 20 moved in to my first house and it had that totally awesome huge tree right behind the house and of course you know what that meant !! Shade and a engine pulling gantry all in one!

Always had some ones car under that tree working on it.

I don’t think any pics of me and anybody else working on a car. If they did, it was usually me doing the work while everybody else looked on. I was poor, still am to an extent, so I traded my labor on their cars for their cast off parts. Only way I could afford to try to build anything for myself....

  19. There is absolutely NO SUBJECT that hasn't been discussed or debated at one time or another and had you read my post I was referring to our misspent youth but I don't doubt for one minute that hasn't been posted also.

There are plenty of threads you can peruse at your pleasure, thank you for sharing your personal opinion, excuse me if I don't agree.

Instead of criticizing why not post something relevant, good luck coming up with something that hasn't been discussed. HRP

Drove what we could afford and fixed it with what ever we had, spent a fair amount of time changing transmissions on my 50's cars in the mid 60's ! Was well acquainted with Cruthers Auto Salvage in my youth.

Reminds me of friday, Saturday nights cruising and looking under the hood of the fast cars.

Around here the really fast cars didn't come out until after midnight when the young kids were heading home.

Miss "dragging the gut". That was our cell phone of the day and we stayed in touch especially during summer months.
