Not much new, got the alternator on and have been driving it to work trying to blow threw some old gas and knock the cob webs out.

noticed I dinged the cowl recently when the door opened to wide so this morning I real quick pulled the limiter off and drilled some more holes it in. Put it back together with the shortest throw and I’ll check it over the week to see if it’s to much or just right before touching up the paint.

plan to wet sand and polish as the next step towards getting it ready to take the family to the gathering at the roc show this October :) 5325CC7A-2AFF-47AB-A23F-84F5C43076D2.jpeg

Fixed the cowl for the… 4th? Time today. Shorter limiting strap works good, and after noticing that the front door gap was rubbing paint off after I spent so much time making sure it all cleared correctly I felt a bump in the cowl.

I smacked it with my palm and “bang!” It’s back where it’s supposed to be!

A494FC71-0C73-4AC5-A29D-CA6E44AC1562.jpeg wait for it to dry a few days and after I update some vacuum lines I’ll get to wet sanding and polishing the fender cowl and door where I painted last year.

Trouble shooting some little hiccups has got me re running and changing some vacuum set ups. @porknbeaner is pretty much always right and eventually I listen to him and start fixing stuff. 1E15D176-E255-4F1C-997A-FB81899E586C.jpeg a hoods up kinda night.

Trying to be back on the road tomorrow and continue getting it done and dialed for the gathering at the roc this year

Short drive this morning, looks like my vacuum
Issues are gone but now I need to re adjust/ re tune everything that was set with the issues in place.

should have it ready by the time the rain stops and be cruising again :)

Took a test drive and the car feels totally different in a good way.

I can’t believe in twenty or so minutes how much different the car feels and acts. I had been chasing my tail on a brake feel issue, and a host of other little hiccups when some new stalling issues popped there head up.

I knew these weren’t just from sitting issues that needed shook out but actual issues.

Taking Bens advice I found that where my vacuum lines T’d into the intake had worked very lose!

I tightened the fitting and then start working on the vacuum lines that I could see visible kinks in and in the case of the vacuum timing advance I could easily collapse the line shut. So I fixed all that re routing the lines in ways that should age better.

I also moved my brake booster hose to a large port off the back of my carburetor that is specifically for that use. Put new hose clamps on everything and went for a drive.

car sounded way better at idle and the brakes felt better but it felt way wrong in terms of acceleration and down shifting. It felt like running in calf high water or something.

some chatting to confirm my thoughts I reset the th350’s kickdown cable. I had noticed how slack it felt and it stood to reason that if I had previously adjusted it with the vacuum line for the modulator kinked shut that now with a new line maybe it was out of adjustment since they both deal with pressure.

or maybe I just knocked it wonky moving shit around. Who knows lol.

Either way I re adjusted it this afternoon. Pulled the tab up and the cable sucked in like a tape
measure. Put the tab back down and slammed the gas open as hard as I could.

You could feel the new resistance immediately and it had a nice soft amount of slack in the line with the throttle off.

Went for a drive and the shift points feel different, the throttle pedal is noticeably firmer, brakes are much better and the car feels both quieter and faster.

I took it for a big test lap and as it came up to temp and got some more miles on it it felt more and more uniform .Think I blew all the carbon out as well lol.

I’ll do some day light driving the next couple days and see where I’m at. But so far I feel kinda silly that it only took 20 minutes of time to really improve the car.

    keep ya posted

71E510C9-4119-4BF2-9AA7-B7732AE89DB6.jpeg Drove it to work and around town on errands. Everything still feels good. Gas pedal is still a learning curve with the new feel. I think most of my shift point questions will be answered by finding the new sweet spot on the pedal.

for basically a stock pedal it’s very finicky. Acts completely different depending on where your foot lands on it.

got a few rainy days ahead so I’m hoping to get it up on ramps and lube/ greases everything up. Check the trans fluid and start on sanding/ polishing the new paint areas.

hoping for a little day trip adventure in a week or so. Should tell me all to know by the time I’m home

Well @Austin kays and I went for a test and tune run and snagged a few pieces for the 46 from a buddies dad.

    I’ll post tubing/trouble shooting stuff later but here are some photos from the day got around 100-120 miles in B08C4C8A-9013-433B-A7DA-92D9C557C65E.jpeg 1497DEF6-BB7C-4342-9110-62C3B9E77258.jpeg 1534D836-139A-45A7-B3F6-91A1E60D9BAA.jpeg 1C2BB27C-A8F2-4DC0-B3EF-CDE22251E421.jpeg 24004A85-84BB-45F1-91F2-185075C2B45A.jpeg F965DC10-8FCC-41B8-95E3-7EEB4F7BE239.jpeg 17D88CBA-4AA3-4951-ADE9-F1D5698F6298.jpeg 226FC626-2AD0-46BC-B711-22EB2670FC70.jpeg AB784AA6-328F-4959-8377-E8BADA2923FB.jpeg E5EC960B-16B8-4647-8112-69AE333A0DDD.jpeg E338771B-EC79-4FAC-99F3-719207592861.jpeg C6C98C5A-A084-4900-94BA-4937164FB60A.jpeg F718FEF0-7A3B-47D4-9841-C6F882BB2BAC.jpeg

So To go along with the very nice Louvered hood I got these new hood springs as I’ve only had one on the car this whole time. E9189B10-9797-4336-953E-B019F3BC9A38.jpeg He saw me trying to work while holding the hood up and offered them up. Gotta pull them and get the hinges back to him now :)

Trans is still being a little weird.

added a little fluid even though the dipstick said it probably had enough and went for a drive. Still not quite right 2E952EBC-9197-4166-8B80-A6948F28ED47.jpeg gonna give a friend a call that runs a transmission shop and see what they think in the morning

Made a call to my favorite hot rod transmission shop up in Omaha and Julie and Ralph got me on the right track!

pretty sure I’ve got the down shift/ detent cable set totally ass backwards. 8C24F27B-D16C-49F6-AAE5-7E887529B9A0.jpeg great people to work with if you even need trans info/ service.

Realized I basically updated on this project on a different three so I’m just going to copy and paste what I said over there.

@n847 yup, as far as I can tell the vacuum modulator failed and fried the forward gear clutches. Only reason the road trip to the swap meet happened is I had the kick down adjusted so wrong it was basically forcing it stay in second and grip

waiting to hear back on a quote as tearing into a th350 isn’t on

the hood, toe boards, radiator, engine and trans all need to come out to even do the most minor work to the trans. That stock X member swallows the majority of the trans.

so I’m really not wanting to risk doing it myself and have to take it all back apart soon after.

@Austin kays and I are talking and I think if it’s going to be off the road all summer while I raise the money and it’s gotta come all the way apart we are going to tear the motor down and do rings, bearings, oil pump etc. I really don’t like taking this car apart so I’m aiming to do it once this decade.

that’ll give me 100% solid fresh drive train going into year 12 of driving the car. Hopefully I’ll get a bunch of small projects done at the same time.

haven’t given up hope on the roc but it’s not feeling super hopeful

Oh, and I some how got the front shocks to bottom out hard enough enough times that I’ve ripped one back off again.

so…. Front shock mounts version… 3? 4? Coming up as well.

it’s kinda turning into a big project”

Alright had some things turn around sunny and the 46’ thrash is gearing up for launch!

@Austin kays has got bearings, rings, gaskets, oil pump etc on the way and I’ve got an appointment for the Friday of fathers day weekend to drive up to Omaha and have the trans rebuilt that day!

got my new shock mounts mostly figured out. I just need to mock them up to see how they fit and figure out what I need to hit with a hammer to make them fit better before cleaning everything up.

grinding “new” parts clean, cutting old mounts off and getting it all painted etc. going to have to find new front shocks. But I think they should end up longer so they’ll be easier to find and lord willing I can stop bottoming this thing out on the shocks.

im also trying to figure out how to make the red hood black. If I have to pull the hood to pull the drive train it seems silly to take the hood back off and swap it again. So I’d like to be hoodless for the least amount of time possible.

    motor, trans, shock mounts, hood.

those are going to be priority and then once it’s driving again I can get back to the original mile long to do list.
