That great roadster was shown a lot in R&C rod run and show coverage back in the day. From what I remember it was big block powered soon after they came out. I'm thinking it was a "Bay area" car ,pure cool in my book.

Tony looks like The Fonz. Sweet roadster!

  6. There's no information about the roadster in the book.

Seriously? Did I just waste $20.00?

  8. Actually there is a small blurb on the car on the book info page, but no more photos. It gives info on the engine etc.
    So $20.00 not entirely wasted.

    Tony Martinez

Tony must be in his '80s now. Live in the S.F. Bay Area all his life. That roadster is his first car. High School ride. He is an early Bay Area Roadster member if Not a founding member.

I haven't seen Tony in a year or two but I drive past his house regularly and its yard is in the pristine condition as it always has been so I feel he is still kicking.

Yes he still has it from the '50s. Some us keep our stuff. Still in his first house also from the '50s. Probably bought it new. Has access on the side to his "Man Cave" in back. Told me that is why he bought the house. Everything he owns looks new. '60s Chevy step side looks new. Not sure but he probably bought it new too. You know his step side probably looks/is better than new.

I'm starting to sound like Sal Mineo talking about James Dean in "Rebel Without A Cause" here.

Had a Corvette IRS too, there was an article in Hot Rod, I will post it tomorrow. KILLER car. There are a couple pics of it on the Andy Brizio picnic thread as well.
That book is WELL worth $20, hell those Southard books are just about priceless IMO. I have all four.

Theres a GREAT colour shot at the start of that book of Grabowski doing a double-take as he walks by Gary Helikers channeled purple T at one of those LA Roadster Hollywood Bowl shows. You are gonna LOVE that book, every page has something cool on it. Full of beautiful color shots of some of the highest profile hot rods of the sixties.

You mean the Fonz looks like Tony. That pic was taken in 1969, there WAS no Fonz.:D
'49/'50 ford tail-lights are totally under-rated. I LOVE this car.

A glimpse into Tony's garage "man cave" in 1988. Hope he doesn't mind. Don't make me regret letting you in. Yes I know it opens a new can of worms. Notice his step side in the second photo.

Wow. That thing's cool as hell. And to think of the 'new' parts he used back then!

You know pete I really don't know anything about the rear engine car. I can't even remember the circumstance I was at his house when I took the pictures. It was before I had my roadster on the road. I remember driving my roadster to his house shortly after getting it on the street. That would be '89 or '90. I must have been with someone that knew him. I think this was the first time I was ever over there. I did work with a guy about Tony's age (about ten years older than me) that I think went to school with Tony and his wife. This guy was teasing Tony's wife about pulling wheelies for a whole block on Tony's Triumph years ago. She denied it.

Great now I love the car even more! If you guys run into Tony let him know he has a fan! I'm seriously thinking about bringing my car into the 60's or even building another one.
