If my daily driver Toyota Landcruiser ever finally dies, I'll buy another used one. mines been been everywhere twice, vault solid,V8 4wd, pulls trailers loaded to the gills, doesn't break and has 3 seats so I can separate my kids when they tie up, which is often.

  2. id buy a 2007 ford F250

  3. My father bought a '05 Magnum RT when it was new and says it's the best car he's ever owned (that's saying something, it's a long list). Last week he up and decided to buy a '07 Magnum AWD RT, so I bought his '05.

independentcustoms, you won't be disappointed with the Magnum, but in Rochester snow tires will be pretty much mandatory. They are a handful in the snow.

Why are people freaked out about Chrysler dropping the Magnum? It doesn't make the ones that exist any less of a car. Last time I checked Ford wasn't making 1949 sedans either, but I bought one anyway.

I used to hate foreign vehicles until I got my 1995 Toyota Pick-Up, the most dependable vehicle I've ever owned. I'd really like to buy a newer or older (Cadillac or Lincoln) to have as my daily driver but the truck just never gives up...

Bought my wife a new one in 2000 and it was a total piece of junk, I sold it outright and lost $5000.00 but it was worth it to get rid of it. Depreciated like a rock, power windows all broke, trim fell off, coil packs, could never get it aligned to track properly. Your results may vary.

I'd probably take the 25-30K and buy 5 nice used cars and or trucks. Insurance wouldn't be that bad since I would only need liability, then I could drive to work in a different vehicle every day of the week. And, if one broke down, I'd have four more as backups. They'd all be pre computer cars, so I could fix them myself cheaply, and because of their age they'd just keep getting cooler as opposed to your new one which would only look outdated in a few years. And after a few years, I could probably sell them for as much as I paid or more, try that with a new one.
Of course I have room for them, it may not be such a good idea if you live in the city.

  12. I'd go for Chrysler 300C SRT-8 wagon, but the pricetag here is around $150 000... unbeatable problem for me

  13. gosh, cant afford a new car. I just bought a "new" car for myself. An 87 Toyota x-cab. Its actually pretty rare. 5 speed with 22RET motor. Factory Turbo Charged, SR5 package with power steering and power windows.

    (let the flogging begin)

To make things worste, im going to customize it too

    hmmmm....

for a car, i would take a plymouth prowler, drop in a chevy ls6 and a 6 speed trans, lose the bumpers and front fenders, and drive it.....

for a truck? probably an extended cab shortbed 3/4 ton 2006 Silverado....

but thats just dreaming as i am a broke ass with a shitty job trying to build 2 old vehicles at the same time (56 chevy pickup and a Galaxie).....

realistically, i want a 88-98 regular cab longbed 4x4 chevy with a torsion bar tweak, fender trimming, rear detroit locker, front ARB locker, and 33x13.5-16 super swamper LTB's.....not really a play-toy as most would think, more of a practical vehicle to drag cars out of fields, haul scrap, pull cars out of ditches for a little extra cash in the winter, etc...

rumor has it that these holden utes will be coming stateside rebadged as El Caminos.

  16. Heard the same thing but it wont look like that one, as it's from a privately owned Holden supported company.
It will probably be minus it's wings and things and look more like the GTO from the front.

I leave the new cars to my family to buy.

My wife and my daughter both drive near new Hyundai Accents, 2 door hatchbacks with 5 speed sticks (Yep, BOTH drive stick shifts!)

My son in law drives a Holden sedan (Like that ute but older) but he really wants a 300C Chrysler sedan.

I can have pretty much any car I want within reason as mine is a business vehicle and a tax deduction. I could drive a new Volvo, BMW or Merc, but I choose to drive my (almost) 30 year old Triumph sedan which is now almost completely restored/modified/updated.

I guess at my age (59) I can choose not to drive a newer vehicle, and when I replace the Trumpy it will be with something much older. I drive 8000 miles a year, I can handle driving an old car that far.

    Cheers, Glen.

  18. Thanks man. I mean it sucks that I'm a homosexual now (no offense to other homosexuals on this board, it sucks cuz I have a female fiance), but I dig the car a lot. It's a little more fancy than I need (navigation, sattelite radio, etc), but for the price I couldn't pass it up. Plus it's got some balls. I'll bring it by in a few days, I should be over that way soon.

The same platform is used on the Jaguar S-type and the 2001-2005 Ford Thunderbird. A co-worker's wife has an S-type and she is very happy with it. The Lincoln styling seems more bland and from 50ft is indistinguishable from a lot of other sedans. They look best in darker colors (chrome details are more visible). Also, the 3.9 V8 is a little less powerful than the 4.0 version in the Jag. But OTOH, the prices seem soft so a good used one should be easy to find cheap, but like any other used luxo car, pay attention to the little (expensive) things like power accessories and gizmos. Usually pretty spendy to repair if they quit.

As for me, I'm probably going to look for a 2006-2007 Mustang GT in the near future.

But if Ford or GM were to re-introduce a Ranchero or ElCamino based on an Oz-ute, especially if it had a V8 and a manual trans, I would seriously look at one.

"Becuase sooner or later taking time from your projects to fix your cheap dailys starts to suck. and the only reason i got a new truck is cause i get way to get of a deal to pass up. So call me gay but i got a fucking warrenty and its sweet"

We currently have a '03 Impala with 70k miles and a '04 Chevy 1 ton diesel with less than 4k miles(bught a couple months ago off dealers lot, still considered new as far as warranty and crap like that). We will probibly buy a GMC Acadia next but we will wait till they start putting the 6 spd in them.

If I could choose anything it would be a Caddy CTS V

All this and I was just talking to my wife about the next 'new' vehicle we should buy would be a Brookville bodied 30-31 pick-up. Maintanence-wise, it would cost about the same as a new car or a little less. And it's would be a WHOLE lot more fun to own. There was a recent article in a rod magazine covered this well enough to convince us that this was a seriously viable option.

Have you ever driven one? Pretty tight for a daily driver.
I was tempted to build a glass merc on a well rust proofed GM frame with a sbc crate motor as a daily driver. Cool, rustproof, timeless styling, and easy to maintain, should last me the rest of my life.

Another Mazda Miata. It is the only daily driver car that acts like it had about 6 cans of red bull and a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts every time I get in it. Seems like it can't wait to get to 7,000 in each gear. If I couldn't get that, I would take my" T "as a daily driver

I drove a '65 Beetle for six years, in Ohio, year-round. I'm pretty sure I can handle an A-bone pick-up. Besides, if I start to get any kind of claustrophobic feeling, all I have to do is think how much cooler I look then everyone else on the road ;-)

We have 200,000 miles on the 96 roadmaster wagon so we decided to get the wife a new car before it let her down out on the road. We drove a bunch of them and decided on a 06 Chrysler 300c. Man that succa will haul. Comfy too. I like it cause it doesnt have a bunch of useless options that you never use.
