Hot Rods If you could pick a car that epitomizes the word "Hot Rod" what one car fits that bill?

I always liked my chopped three window, maybe because it was the first one I built. IMG_0214.JPG

The red one was a little more sporty...

  11. The rear wishbones were modified Ford. Too much flex in the rear end, so Gene got rid of the spring and bolted it solid to the frame. According to Larry, it went straighter and was easier to drive.

  12. I think that one problem is that "Hot Rod" is so hard to define. So many eras and so many distinct build styles just within the time period that we call "traditional" alone. Then we have so many opinions as well.

I am a big fan of the model 40 coupe. But I am a kind of a goofball, I think that 5 windows are more pleasing than 3. o_O

This one for me. My uncle built it in 55. Drag raced it into the 60s. I rebuilt it in the 81. Him and my aunt still go out and get burgers in today. He's 79. Cheers

I agree Beaner.....there is such a selection of cars that fit the term ''hot rod'' pre-1965....eras, styles, chops, channels, tail-draggers, engine selections, and the general car manufacturer, etc..etc. I kind of go along with whatever makes me smile, and causes me personally to 'take notice'....maybe not everyone's cup of tea all the time, but hey....the car culture is sort of based on 'individual' persona and what they value....if we all drove the same car and nothing ever varied or had a unique twist ....it would all be rather boring and cause me to consider ''what's the point'' if we all liked only one single style....to each his/her own I say, and I'll continue to enjoy the variations and choices other's have with their cars, and smile at the differences, simply because they are different;)

BTW.... I really much prefer a 30' Ford more than a 32' or 34' Ford....5 window with an ordinary 'early' flathead with a single carburator, no channel & ''no chop, whitewalls with hubcaps instead of wire wheels, and gotta have tuck-n-roll interior....we can be a little goofball now and then ya' know....it's my thing:D

Only knew the man through his writing, and his friends' observations of him, but Gray's deuce, would certainly be mine, road rash, primer and all! It was just an old car and memories of long lost friends to him, and I think that is about as good an explanation as needed for this hobby.

Is Ron's coupe the one that had the low UFO tag on it? It is/was awesome!

Yeah, Ron Funkhouser's coupe is the low UFO. A super cool hot rod if there ever was one!

So many great ones mentioned already but my favorite is Dean Lowe's roadster pickup.

  22. The first thing that pops into mind is a 27-32 RPU or roadster.
I really like 32-34 coupes too.
Around here there isn't too many of any of these.
The ones that are around here really stick out.
The LS isn't exactly traditional, still a really nice car! P1020320.JPG

  23. Yup thats it! The first time i saw it was at Goodguys in Charlotte NC in the 90's it had a flat on one of the rear dirt trackers with sign next to it that said "Firestone Recall" or something like that. it was and is a car that really influenced on me how a hot rod should be.
