Hot Rods If you could pick a car that epitomizes the word "Hot Rod" what one car fits that bill?

If the word hot rod was mentioned circa 1965, the non-car mass's would most likely picture this:

Not a bad thing IMO. :D

  8. Yep, the one hot rod that had mass-market media exposure and was recognizable by pretty much everyone, even if it was only known as 'The Little Deuce Coupe' to most.

Lots of history revising going on here... Race cars... I'm with George, while a hot rod can be a race car, a race car isn't a hot rod; a hot rod is street-legal or capable of being so. From a purely traditional standpoint, I'd have to say that a Model A or Model T should be the choice; the 'traditional era' AMBR judges certainly thought so.

This is purely an opinion based thread. I don't want to get into the "What is the true definition of Hot Rod and when did it appear." This is purely an exercise in your happy place.

Damn straight, especially if you were an 11 year old and it was one of the first LP's you ever owned in '64.

  15. Two others are borderline HAMB-appropriate, but made me feel all giddy when I first saw them so many years ago:

  16. Jeez this thread grew fast - not even gonna read it. For the era I grew up in, Norm Grabowski's. For the last part of the 20th century - ZZ Top's red ride.

Basically Any well done Fender-less 29 Roadster on a 32 Frame does it for me.

The car is Rad, But everything that is cool about the car is totally ruined by the Fenders IMO. I hate the motorcycle fender thing It would look 100% better with stock Fenders and 200% Better without any.

I actually like the fenders....usually I like a 'fenderless' car, but ....I think it makes the car look unique, and just a "little bit" different. I also agree & think it would look fantastic fenderless to be sure...but, I kinda like that little nuance of the personal touch in Ricky Nelson's car with the motorcycle fenders....in my humble opinion, it gives it a certain ''uniqueness'' to the otherwise expected hot rod stature of the day;)

Hmmm...seems like a lot of guys envision their own car as the ultimate. I guess that's a good thing?

Yup,I love that one. My own build I did for highschool in the late 1950s,has some of the same feel.
I've restored it a few times over the years, but updates have been limited to chroming the headers an adding alt. vs gen., plus a folding top*,in highschool I had just had a cockpit Tonneau cover.
All the rest is as it was in highschool 1960 to 62,color an all. srufsideshowA.jpg

Me too. Nice stance, a few primer spots and it certainly was driven. Gray put on over 250K miles while he had it.

It is REALLY tough simply picking one car! I personally think it's nigh onto impossible! This particular little car just seems to fill the bill whenever I see it. I enjoy simply "looking at it"...lack of paint and all. It takes me to a ''happy place'' where I long to linger.:) 3b39b0aae639e8028f24fc8ac7862dd4.jpg
