Hot Rods If you could pick a car that epitomizes the word "Hot Rod" what one car fits that bill?

Not really as calm as you think...His normal driving style was right hand on the wheel and left hand/arm on the body top!

For me it's Dean Lowe's RPU, Sam Conrad's '29, McMullen's '32 (there's plenty of pictures here), they are at the core of this addiction. They really got me wound up about hot rods as a kid.
But lately I'll have to add the dragrod RPU (also pictured previously) and our own Tony's '32 5w ........ Two bad ass hot rods that have helped me keep my welder weldin' and my grinders grindin'

  7. For me hot rodding is the equivalent of garage rock, which I dig. The Troggs, Them, Question-mark and the Mysterions, the New York Dolls. These are garage bands.

Famous builders, iconic cars, '32 Fords, big money polished builds, anything requiring a 2nd mortgage, these are all the equivalent to stadium rock stars, (which I dig), but they don't have the heart that garage bands do. U2, Led Zepplin, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones; these are not garage bands (any more).

For me a lot of Model A Coupes that you guys here have built define "hot rod", they are like good, down to earth, workin' man garage rock. I will go with this:

I have a soft spot for nostalgic cars.....Ed Iskendarian's T was always a huge favorite, and still is! Speaks "hot rod'' to me from a basic appreciation of the past.... isky-t-hot-rod-2.jpg

  10. Lots of great cars, but Isky did it first with his pre WW2 roadster.

Gotta be my Stude, hell, it even says so. No, not really, all these cars on the previous pages are the REAL hot rods. But I'll tell you what, it's this site and the people on it that made want to do my Stude the way I have, and I thank all of you. A real hot rod from me is gonna happen one day in the future. Maybe the orange crate, but I used to have this old T that I had a lot of fun with and put lots of miles on.

Well if your talking about what I dream of when I dream of my idea of a Hot Rod I'll have to say something like this. But as far as Hot Rod's go I like em all! Joe

Man what a great pic. I would love to sit on that beautiful porch and look at hot rods in the yard.

The McMullen car gets my vote for the epitome of hot rod. If you asked even a non-car person to picture a hot rod in their head, that's what you'd get, damn near every time.

Although I want to give an honorable mention to the ZZ Top Eliminator coupe. I know it's way off topic for this board and I won't post a pic but that car really helped make hot rods cool again at a time when the hobby was weak. Certainly it would be the epitome of what we now call street rods.

Part of "epitome" is instant recognizability by even the average public and that car has it.
