I have been examining the pictures of the restored Kookie car in Rodder's Journal and Hot Rod and it looks like the rear spring is supported by thin air. Long U-bolts with a big gap from the spring to the crossmember. Can you guys see anything there?
I see what you mean. Supposedly there was a "lift block" between the spring and the Model A cross-member.
Think 940's right there's a " lift bock " with a curved underside to the same radius of the spring painted matt black to help disguise it.
...Pretty clever ain't it! There must be some visuals when they tore it down and put it back in the extensive thread here...by Joey or Jive...
Floating leaf spring. Cool. I guess the effect works LOL. Happy New Year, fellas. Have to add... Is that one well finished hot rod, or what? Look at that rear axle. Whew!
Snagged from the https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/driving-the-kookie-kar-back-to-1958.1110832/ thread this shot shows the piece that raises the spring up. You can clearly see that piece in the photo in Post 6. It does blend in so well you don't take big notice of it though. You can also see it in post 8
I guess if you go to all the trouble to dis-assemble the spring and have it chromed...you want ALL of it to show
When he transitioned it from the "lightning bug" to "Kookie's car" he raised the rear. Looks like that block was how he did it.
Dare to be different...Norm was an inspiration and trendsetter...I think we should be more accommodating to genius...It is an incredibly beautiful spring and spacer without question and I wonder if they had the illusion noted as part of the mod or it was just a unintended anomaly...
Looking at those welds and drinking a beer is something you shouldn't do at the same time. Damned near choked to death.
