Does anyone have any idea what this part was originally designed for?
it has a fitting for a coil wire in the top... and the on the other end... a small rectangular carbon rider for on the rotor inside of a distributor...

I don't see any part numbers on it anywhere.. just a small symbol stating "made in the USA"

    Anyone have any ideas????
I'd like to find where I can buy a couple of these...

on the photo... one side of the top is ground or broken off... this looks like it was originally a full oval shape...

    thanks!

I don't think its a brush... not enough internal tension... its a very light spring pushing on the "carbon?" pick-up

could be something to do with a magneto...

    thanks!

Try this...go to Google advanced image http://www.google.com/advanced_image_search and put in magneto and ignition (if you don't add something you get 10 million hits on some comic book) and start looking. Mags from lawnmowers, hotrods, motor cycles, cement mixers...
