This is a light that goes into a hitch receiver.

Okay, put this on my truck originally as a joke. It stayed. It CAN be seen.

  4. Years ago I was planning to put '59 Caddy tails on a pickup and to go with that I was going to fabricate a chrome strip with 6 or 8 of these "license tag bolt lights" for a 3rd brake light, centered above the rear cab window, not at the license plate.
(The truck is long gone and I never did the deed so no pix.)

Cool ... Hambers with a creative minds. Like the post about using a period factory trim piece and bringing it up to current standards in a subtle way.
I am making a third brake light for my mild custom 58 Edsel Corsair by carefully removing the E-D-S-E-L letters and small fins from the center of the pot metal ornament in the center of the deck lid under the rear window. Have a piece of translucent lexan which will be cut to fit and epoxied into the casting. Fabbed a thin steel bar to mount to the inside which will carry six small LED jewel lights. I'm trying to decide if I should leave all six as brake lights, or wire them into pairs for simultaneous operation as brake and turn signals. Everyone will have to look close at cruise nught and shows to notice this modification, and I think it's cool.

  13. I've used this retro 3rd brake light on my last 3 hot rods....cast/sold by the Ionia Hot rod shop in Ionia,MI 3rd brake light.jpg .. I put an LED in them to get a more bright light.

I would put them, LED, in the bed rails as was suggested. A friend of mine used 2 about the size of a quarter on his and those things are bright.

More the style I was thinking when he said he didnt want LEDs...maybe tucked back in the hole a bit with the point only barely reaching the end of the rail.

Thanks for sharing this! Been trying to come up with a third brake light idea, and this is it. Just went on epay and found this old Unity lamp with red glass and snagged it. My front bed panel has this thing in it from when the truck was a farm truck with a dump bed. Should make a good mounting spot. IMG_1710.JPG IMG_1712.JPG

Sounds interesting; can you take a few pix of this?

I ran across an article some time ago about making sequential turn signals, similar to Mercury Cougars & some TBirds; but instead of using a bunch of relays, this was done electronically.
If you want, I'll send or post.

  22. This is what I came up with for my 36, came off my Shovelhead and have a somewhat old look. Very bright with 1157s and at eye level. I believe i bought them years ago from JP CYCLE .....Just a thought. Mitch 20181227_182156.jpg 20181227_182143.jpg

I also think a single 61 buick tail light might look kinda cool in the cargo light position on the right custom.
(maybe just the lens??? not to be too overpowering)

image.jpeg Buy a billet one, spray the aluminum flat black and mount it at the top of your rear window.....in the shadow area.

When possible I try to pump the brake pedal lightly several times before actually braking, hoping it alerts the idiot driving behind me that I'm slowing down or stopping.

Won't help him on his truck but the coolest one I heard of was somewhere on here. A guy had a coupe with louvers in the deck lid, when he hit the brakes all the louvers lit up.
