id these spindles

  1. sorry for the bad camra pics im doing this all form my phone

    ok i got these on a model A AXEL
    they have 40 ford drums and hubs that were on them
    they look like 48 ford spindles but with a few major differances
    1 st is the backing plate holes are 1/3 of the size
    2nd where they mount to the axel there is only about 1/4 in gap so theres no room for a 39-48 size bearin

    so im just wondering if anyone knows what these may of came off ?

    english ford?

    35-36 Ford, the backing plate mounting holes are closer than a 39-48 backing plate if you check.
  3. your right i forgot to mention the hole are closer by maybe a 1/4 in
    but wasent the bearing inbetween the axel and spindle the same size as a 39 . when i mount these there almost a direct fix straight on the axel with no bearing
  4. The thrust bearing was on top of the spindle below the head of the King pin. You can still use them, nothing wrong with the early style pins.

    And...1935 and 1936 have several differences. Shoul have a "48" (1935)or "68"(1936) forged on somewhere. 1935 will require spacer for bearing, '36 won't.

    The hydraulic brake adapter kit includes 2 backing plate centering rings and 2 bearing spacers for the 28-35(some 36) longer spindle stub axle.
    The 28-36 Spindles mount the bearing under the "cup" head of the kingpin above the axle boss. Bearings and races are the same up front for 28-28 Passenger cars and 28-47 Pickups.
