I'd love your input for wheel/tire choice-- '62 Lincoln

Won't have the Lincoln completely like i want for the road trip to Austin for the Lonestar, but i'd love to strap on the tires and wheels before then. That is, if i could decide what the hell to put on it....

Give me your thoughts on wheel (and/or hubcap) / tire combo for this beast... Couple things:

    - Since this older picture, the car is a bit more shaved than you see.
    - Eventually will have a flashy 60's style paint job that i'm not ready to talk about yet.

Right now i'm thinking wire wheel maybe. Still also undecided on wide white or 60's pinner style. This land yacht should be able to get away with either.

Thanks for your thoughts. I need a jump start to get me past my current hang up in undecidedville....

Hubcaps and Wide Whites work for me. I love '62 Lincolns! Looks to be sitting just purdy as well.

  4. A nice set of tru-spokes and 1 " whites would be nice.

The stance says it all on this car. Whatever wheels/caps you choose will be fine. I think this model year car is better served by narrow white walls.

Boy, opinions are all over the map! I like the wheels/caps that are on it. I'd like it with wider whitewalls, like 2-3". Wire wheels would look OK too, but they're a lotta bucks and I think the car looks fine with steelies.

  7. Stock wheels and covers with double thin whitesor maybe redlines as they look good on non-muscle cars. Then again, that may be an early Hot Wheel influence.

That car needs wires and narrow whites.

I'm torn between Tru Spokes or Chromies with no caps. Either way they'd have to be wearing thin whites.

  13. I'm inclined to leave it as is...maybe the paint will ask for something different when you get it done.

I like the whitewalls that are about 2" wide but the white doesn't start at the bead. They would have been popular on 60's era luxury cars. The skinny whitewall looks too cheap to me, and wide whites are too 1950's out of place. Tires like this would look nice.

I could see wire wheels on it too, but not modern 100 spoke wires, more like what a Thunderbird Sports Roadster would have had, they were around in '62 so they're period correct. Some late 50's Mopars had a nice looking wire wheel as well.

Try looking at ebay or other on-line sites for other year Lincoln caps and then see if they look good on your ride. Early 70's LTD's had really cool fake spoke caps that would work too but are they traditional? Nice set of 59 mark III caps on ebay now but they are 14 inch. Whatever wheels/caps you choose,
I vote for 2 inch whitewalls - not too narrow not too wide - just right !!

To answer you question I would go with the spokes and I have seen a super thin white..almost 3/4 inch white looked really good..

a set of the new repop tru-spokes wires with thin white walls would get my vote. if you are planning on going 60's go with the wires

Cragar Star 30 spokes.. A car that classy deserves a classy wheel.. and or course skinny whites.
