  7. But a Studebaker Daytona does? Maybe all you guys who had comments about four doors, should get together and write a book about "what's cool". Then we'd all know and wouldn't have to ask stupid questions that you have to answer all day. I like your '60 Chevy, it's looks good with either set of wheels.

It's an opinion thread. Opinions are like assholes; everyone has one. Growing up in the '60's & '70's, we wouldn't be caught dead in a 4-door. It was the same with wagons. The difference? No one sells wagons anymore and they are hard to find. Wagons at the time got as much love as a Chrysler minivan does now.

Watching someone try to trick out a 4-door sedan is like watching "Revenge of the Nerds".

And yes, Studebakers are cool. Except the 4-doors.

EDIT: By the way, have you noticed that the sudden turn in NASCAR started about the same time they were trying to make 4-doors (Impalas, Chargers, Taurus and Camry) "race cars". Even their fans don't buy that crap.

you could convert it to a 2 door...thought I'd just throw some more stuff into this thread...:)

By the way I do like the mags better.

  10. That's fine, fair enough. I thought both American Graffiti, and Two-Lane Blacktop sucked. Hard. In fact, I never even made it all the way through either of those movies. So, I hate to think that's what the "old days" were like. Also, I hate to think of my grandma runnin' around in a four door car looking for action. I wasn't around in the old days so I don't really care what happened, nor do I feel like I need to emulate what happened then. I just like old cars. Mostly Fords. Oh yeah, I think '55 Chevies suck pretty hard also. I could sit on here all day and tell people what I don't like about their cars, but I'm not going to do that, it's not nice, and wouldn't want them doing it to me. The man asked for opinions on his wheels.

I like it both ways, bagg it.

  12. Okay its official I am going to run these 200s wheels as I have blown my money on buying the 4 door so I might as well blow some more. They are paid for now and on the car. As for the 4 door I have two more four doors even though they are newer and I also have two two doors also. Gosh looks like I blow a lot of money all the time any way so why change.

You're right, dude, North County San Diego is for sure ground central for west coast car culture.

I'm trying to ignore you and your shitty attitude, but you're making it tough.

I grew up in Detroit not too far away from Gratiot and Woodward Avenues. I'd argue that Detroit was just as big in the auto scene if not more so than SoCal. I wonder how the cruising is in Cheyenne?

But I agree on the use of a 4-door. GIRLS! They always borrowed their parents cars and they didn't care about the 4-door or wagon issue. They just wanted to meet guys.

The movie 'Hollywood Knights' lacked a lot of 4-doors. The only 4-door I recall was the cop car. No one was racing dad's sedan!

Crashnburn, I hope you're just trying to piss people off with your comments about AG and the TLB movie. Plus that bullmess about the 55 Chevy. If not, I really seriously feel sorry for you. Poor bastard.........
In the past a four door might not have been cool. Now decades later things are different. 60's American steel/glass/chrome really do it for me now, no matter how I felt about four doors in my younger years.
    Later Josh.

    My 8 cents. Two doors=hotrods. Four doors=cruisers.

I'm a cruiser and I drive the shit out of my cars I love four doors.

To the original intent of this thread-I would like the mags if they hed skinny whites. Personally I would sell the mags and buy skirts maybe even bellflowers.

I'm confused though I can't figure out sometimes if this is a custom, hotrod, driver, or cruiser forum. I allways thought if it was pre-64 it was ok here. Maybe I'm wrong? I do that alot.

There was nothing in SoCal that we didn't have in Detroit. We had drive-ins, three cruising Blvd's depending on what side of town you were on. The only thing in SoCal's corner is/was the weather. You could cruise all year, we could only cruise for 6 months (not fun cruising thru a blizzard).

Guys in Detroit that had 4-doors got moched and hitched a ride in a buddies car. In '84 I bought my mom's '78 Country Squire. I caught hell in that car (especially because of the woodgrain). But it was the SUV of it's time and it was great for towing my boat (couldn't do it with my Escort hatch).

    I like the Americans.....

Now about 4drs... I like 'em, because you can haul people, and if you've got a hot engine, it's even cooler. Of course there weren't to many people "in the day" that hot rodded 'em...Who cares? There are actually some very cool 4drs, I'd love a '64 Impala HT, or an Olds or Buick 4dr HT Wagon...those look sweet. Oh and then there are the '61-'69 Lincoln Continentals....those cars are bad ass (the 'verts are sweet). And don't forget the Ford Phaetons, and Tourings....also very cool. And there are quite a few others... I don't own a 4dr, but I'd like to someday! Like one of the Lincolns I mentioned above....

BTW...Great waste of money!!! I'd do it too...

  20. well said -

my best buddy in high school had a cool 55 4 door with a bitch 383 and a power glide. We had a lot of fun in that car. too bad I didn't know it wasn't cool. Fuck now what am I going to do??????

  21. Jimmy please change your title of this post to "James Maxwell please tell me what's cool and what's not?"

    This is unreal....

Guy asks about his wheel choice, and some douchbag's gotta voice his opinion on the car. I'd assume your correct about 2 doors. Maybe your right, the only cool hot rods came outta southern cal(hahaha). I'll assume your also the god of hot rods. I'll guessing you got laid in your 2 doors every night. Most people worship the ground your feet walk on?

What were you driving when you were 16....i'll guess an Ardurn powered roadster, right, because your the god of hot rods in the holy grounds of hot rods..... Funny thing here is you just keep poking your dumb ass into something you should just walk away from...hope you take that as a hint

    here's this is for you....

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=380

    hahaha...

now you can tell everyone how things were really done

BTW, should i scrap my early 30's chevy 5 window, i'm sure they were not cool back in the day, nor are now...just looking for someone with a good opinion

Why the hell can't you guy's just offer an opinion regarding the wheels and leave it at that? IF you don't like 4 doors, that's fine, but he didn't ask what you liked, only which wheel choice looked better...Or better yet, say nothing..
    WTF..................

I like the Americans and blackwalls..They look better with that paint scheme than the smoothies to me.

In my opinion ya did good ... the new wheels & blackwalls look much better.

As for the other drama on the thread, just try to ignore it. There's a lot of us here who own and appreciate the fourdoors.
Hell, I always had the hots for a Checker airport limo .... doors for DAYS!

i prefer the look of the chromies over the mags on that car.

daisies.....or s200s, or s2ooo as ive heard them called.,look good on some camaros, chevelles, vans etc back in the day.

the 60 would look cool with cragars or astro supremes, but it dont look bad with the mags, and it is your car

As has been mentioned, a 2-dr hardtop Bel Air is worth twice as much as a sedan. That's based on supply and demand.

Now this doesn't mean the original poster doesn't have nice car. But to some of us, traditional means two doors with special dispensation for wagons. It's a family car. Again, I like the mags on it.

I will say this; I'm looking for a plain jane, company car type 4-door for work purposes. Basic white, dog dish hub caps with black wall tires. No hot rod (because 4-doors aren't hot rods), but a nice vintage ride.

i like the chrome reverse look on a 60 chevy. 4-doors are ultra cool especially for driver cars. my 4-door 60 was bagged out with chrome reverse. fawn gold with white top.

  27. agree

  28. maybe he should take it to a honda dealer and clunker it for a civic for his kid? four doors are cool...........
