Kyle Bond in Gibbon NE, could whip ya a Cal Kid Coupe body. This one below reminds me of the look when Pete bought that old Lakes bomber New Years Day 1972 and here's the story of "The Kid" as told by the builder himself.
(Pics are for reference) I hope that this info helps you succeed in your quest to have a "Kid Koupe" IMG_8847.PNG IMG_7978.JPG IMG_7979.JPG IMG_8848.PNG IMG_8850.PNG IMG_8849.PNG

There is many threads on The Kid here and one outlines the many bloopers but it doesn't change the focus of this thread nore my opinion of this classic Hotrod story. True perfection is really difficult to achieve.

  13. That was owned by a guy named Rob who was the Manager of Tire City in Costa Mesa, the Go To place for all the gear heads in the OC back in the 70's. It was in R&D back in August of '77 (I think). I'm pretty sure he sold it to a guy named Darrell Eve who also worked there.

This one is on ebay, It reminds me of the old model kits that you had to paint yourself. (blank canvas) but maybe more than likely too pricey for what it is??? (25k?)

    Hi Bob

This would be a canvas and it would be tough to cut as it seems to be a survivor
and dates seem to be unavailable oh and its a 33. the only date I see is last year but not to long ago last year...
    I will pm the link...;)

This car is a 33'. And way too cool to be turning into a clone of anything but what it is right now.

I clearly stated that...Perhaps Bob's decision can be swayed...I would suspect if he did happen to get this car he would probably love it as it is...especially after seeing the next post...:D

This was a step back in time beauty that again would be tough to alter from what it is but the canvas is nearly there again...It was Cadillac powered to boot...
This was a jaw dropper...67 plates in the mid 90's

    Where is it now...o_O

  21. I have one, Bob 'cept it has no fenders, it'sa 5 window and runs a Pontiac motor...and I turned it into a 33.
In '92 or 93 I was on the Americruise with my 49 ford coupe and we all stopped in to Pete and Jakes for a little luncheon they hosted for us travelers headed for Springfield, Mo... Pete was there driving [now] Slover's California Kid around and as he was cruising down the alley behind the shop, I was walking out the side door with a killer samitch in my hand. My brother pulled me back just as "da kid" rumbled by where I was walking! I almost got creamed by the California Kid that day...

Rocky I'll bet the minimum outcome of that near miss was a Flamin Killer Samitch...:D

I think you could find a fiberglass car that you could make your own and not have near as much as a steel car. Have fun with it. Maybe find an abandoned glass project.

Have you called Pete and Jakes? I'm just curious, I know I've talked to a few people there that thought it'd be cool to build a clone

no I have not. My thought is that their involvement may cost too much. Perhaps I am incorrect.

  28. ...by now I'm sure you know Pete just passed away...

PC3and "The Kid" have left the building biz.
    Godspeed Peter!!!!! IMG_8881.JPG

    Bobwop
Build the "Kid"of your dreams and dedicate it to the memory of Pete Chapouris. I have to say that this build wish came at a "peculiar" time as now the builder has passed, but his chariot remains in Peculiar Mo.
