Amen on the golf. I have told all my friends if they ever see me with a golf club in hand to call the men with the white coats, because I will be crazy if I ever take up golf

  2. if its a mental illness why don't I ever see hot rods parked at the shrinks office? bikes to for that matter. I stopped golfing because the clown at the last hole always kept my ball.

    That's because a Golf is a car.

Went to dinner last night with friends (totally not car people) at the golf course, he golfed for years until he couldn't anymore, he's 80.
He says "you still play with cars", man you got crazy money in them things.
Sitting within eyesight of the grass, sorry @Bandit Billy I meant greens I'm slugging down my first L.I. ice tea and I reply "you want to talk about crazy look at those fools out there chasing after that little white ball, now that's crazy".

what I find a mental illness is people who have no hobbies or interests at all. even if your hobby is the idiots game of golf, at least you are doing something.

I grew up in Oklahoma not far from you. I read your profile and we have similar backgrounds. Only differences I can see are our ages, I'm much older. Do you think it's something in the water that causes this addiction to old cars?

Me, too. I left doing cars for a while and golf kicked my ass. I went back to doing something that I am good at and take pride in. Screw golf!

A new stain on a t shirt or pants is a new badge of honor showing that you were working on your hot rod.:)

Country girls, bare bones hot rods, swap meets and collecting vintage parts always gets the pulse going.

My wife and I went to dinner with a couple recently. The wives are friends. The guy was really fascinated with my cars, my shop, projects, etc. and was asking a lot of questions.

He then said, "You sure have an expensive hobby." I said, "Yeah, but I don't have an ocean front vacation house."(Which he does.)

This is how I choose to vacation and I get a lot more pleasure out of it than I would another piece of real estate to keep up. I HATE yard work and house upkeep.

    Couple more thoughts...

I like the idea that it's therapy.

A hobby should be an escape. It should take your mind off the stresses of everyday life. It does that for me. When I'm out in the shop, the whole world goes away.
    And that's a good thing.

    And...

We joke about it being a disease, and it does have me by the ass and it won't let go LOL. But there are benefits. I think most of us can fix just about anything. I'll bet the very few of us depend on contractors to build or fix our stuff.
    And that's a good thing.

So be happy and proud that you know which is the working end of a screwdriver.

    Crazy people...

  22. I used to prove once a year that I don't play golf. I've stopped that, and spend the few extra hours in the garage hotrodding while listening to the ballgame or music. I spend the savings on greens fees and golf equipment on car parts.

Well you don’t see many hot rods parked outside a physiatrist office. Seriously though if you are spending all your time and money on cars/projects at the expense of your wife, children, girlfriend or friends you might want to reconsider your behavior. Cars can be replaced, relationships not so much.

  26. I really need to get re-infected, real life has basically stopped my car adventures and my car guy group has pretty much drifted apart but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel! I’ve got to button up some house projects then spend a week cleaning the shop then it’s ON!

  27. Mine had also, life gets in the way very often.
Divorce, move, new wife, move again, remodel to make it liveable, build new shop big enough to work in.15 years later I am unpacking my tools and wiring outlets. Sounds hoakey but all too often the truth. Didn't metion the three spells in the hospital and a year to get back to my feet.

AMEN to that. Chasing a ball around in insane. That’s the only sport that the ball never comes back to you. You always have to chase it down

  30. I know people who take a $2,3,5 or 10,000 vacation every year. They think that’s normal.
When they give me shit I tell them it’s way more expensive than cars,,,,
    No really-
    Show me your vacation
Take me for a ride in your vacation
You taking your vacation out tomorrow?
What do you think you could sell your vacation for ?
