Hot Rods "I shouldn't have sold that"

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by MARTINSPEED, Apr 23, 2014.

  1. One of my biggest regrets. IMG_20150124_201148.JPG

  2. Here's my biggest 2 I wish I hadn't now. And these are in the last 5 years that i got both of these and then sold/traded and now regret.

  3. Bought my first SCOT blower (polished too) 1970's for $100.Told myself would never sell, then someone offered $1,000 and it was gone.Early 70's bought a 2 speed pumpkin for a 9 inch rear made by Lenco(made race products) that was built to take a 1,000 ft lbs of torque for $100 complete.Sold to Jay Bittle(jba headers/Calif) who was attending Texas A & M University and had a Boss 429 for $400.

  5. I guess we all wish we hadn't sold something at one time or another.

I was fortunate enough to be able to buy back my Deuce sedan that I had sold some 13 years earlier.

I'm reminded of a quote by Alexander Graham Bell. HRP

"When one door closes, another opens. But we often look so regretfully upon the closed door that we don’t see the one which has opened for us."

I traded a 32 sedan that I had built for the three window that I have now that I then rebuilt from the ground up back in 2002. I had a chance to buy the sedan back a few years later but didn't have the cash handy.

  7. My '40 Ford coupe w/Dodge power, the '35 Chev. sedan project I had, the '56 Ford wagon with a hot Y-block and 4 speed, the '67 Barracuda fastback with a 440, the '50 Ford panel with the Olds 394 and some others... Wishing I still had the mint "A" frame, don't know where it disappeared to over the years.

Dads Coupe sm 001 kr.jpg my dad sold his 1935 ford coupe hot rod when i was 2 years old. he needed down payment money to buy our house. for a very long time i wished he would have kept the coupe. i'm sure it crossed my dads mind from time to time as well. thinking back growing up in that house my dad, brother and i got into hot rods and had our own garage and driveway to work on cars. to me it was as if that coupe never left the family.

  14. I shouldn't have sold it when I did but I wanted a new Pontiac GTO in the wickedest way so I grabbed $2300 bucks from a buyer and used that for my down stroke when I ordered a new '70 GTO.
Only regret I have is when I see another '64 XKE cross the block at collector car auctions and they bring in the $80 -$100,000 plus range.

I hated the original dark blue color so stripped it down and changed to Yellow with a white leather interior.
Purists would kill me now. T.S. !!! 1964 XKE I owned around 1968-1969.jpg

If I'd only put it away for about 45 years.........

So many regrets and so many cars I no longer own.
If I only had the space back then and deeper pockets.
Back then, I had to sell one or two before I could buy more.

  18. My very first street rod, a '40 Pontiac coupe That my pals and I swapped a 303" Oldsmobile into.
Falling school grades and lack of funds to properly do it right forced it's sale.

Still bothers me to this day. Wish I could get it back. View attachment 2820718 View attachment 2820718 View attachment 2820718 Ingemar and Mease.jpg

The Fuelie Bel Air I sold to fund my 1958 Coevette. A couple more I have regrets about selling.

Where's the 'I shouldn't have bought that thread'? That's for me.
Also the 'I shouldn't have drank that' thread.
    Often combined.

'55 Chevy 210, '68 SS 327 4spd. Nova, '63 Dodge 383 4spd. and about a dozen others. I know where they all got to except this '41 Willys. Sold it to a guy in southern Maryland that already had a yellow one. Tried to find out what happened to it. It was like he vanished. No one remembers the cars or the guy. Never to be seen again. That was about 1981
