I can't seem to find an online manual or a good pic of how to set the timing gears on my 68 250 inline,,,any help would be great ,,,,,thanks in advance,,,,
Just go to your nearest public library, they actually have MOTORS and CHILTONS there, usually. And, stay away from those "phenolic" timing gear sets! And, there SHOULD be a dot on each of the gears according to my CHILTONS. Like squirrel said, are the gears on CORRECTLY? Butch/56sedandelivery.
Just pulled timing cover off to see if it was off time,,,I didnt do anything interal to motor,,gear may be on backwards
ok,,finally got to gettin pics,,,is the very tiny dot on gear the timing mark or a casting flub? never seen one that small,,,,,
Hey! I found the Info you need in one of my old Chevrolet Repair Manuals , Feel free to email me and I will sent you the picture you need. [email protected]
Dont feel to bad, i knew a guy that did that to a small block chevy, but he put it at the top, needless to say the car was 180 out.
Half, did you get it figured out yet ? The little dot on the crank gear lines up with the dot on the cam gear. Was it lined up that way when you took it apart ? Dave
So what ? Small block Chevy, doesn't make any difference if you put the cam dot straight up or straight down. It can't be 180 degrees out.
