    It either means 'rock on' or it's the sign of the devil - I can never remember which. Generally done by people with mullets in these parts :)

    No it has nothing to do with the devil, it's a way of warding off the evil eye. My Grandma used it all the time.

    in their language,
    flip them off,

    the interpretation would be;
    that is hella bad grandpa!

    the response would be;
    thanks kid, I want to have sex with your mother

    It used to be an old Italian insult, referred to as the "Cornuto" which implied the recipient's wife was unfaithful to him, similar to the expression of "putting horns on someone" by sleeping with their wife.

    Geez, I've got to stop watching Discovery Channel and get out in the garage more.....:rolleyes:

  19. I think it started with this... the Hawaiian Shaka...

    [IMG]

    Then like KNUCKLE showed... "Two in the pink... One in the stink"

    ...and like CURLY said, back when I was a kid it meant "bullshit"... give with the back of the hand (like giving the finger)... Now it's given with the palm forward, like the peace sign...

    ...but, what I think it really means is...
    The little fuckers are about out of new ideas and are bringing back old stuff and calling it their own...
    I guess... there's alot of that going on these days...:rolleyes:

    That is the international symbol for "I'm an idiot" (refer to photo elsewhere in thread) It was created specifically for middle-aged white men with the intent of allowing us to quickly identify/ ignore young idiots, thereby saving us precious, sometimes hard to come by breath. (Breath normally wasted on young idiots pointing out where they'll be in 20 yrs. if they don't do a reality check soon) Additionally,(also through quick ID /ignore) it spares us the fear associated w/ the realization that these are the future leaders of our nation. (The fear that usually occurs at the end of any short conversation with one of the above- mentioned eyebrow- pierced young idiots) More information on this and other international symbols can be found at; http://www.worldtravel/america/idiots/twofingers.gov As far as sign language is concerned, it simply means; "Please beat the hell out of me"

    Alot of stuff was "wicked" in my time and also "killer" mostly when pointing out the new Z28's or perhaps a Nova with ladder bars doing "peel-outs" off of speed bumps. I hated the "awesome" word from eighties introduced from the valley sissies in Calif " Valley go home, locals only "

  25. I sure hope it doesn't all come back around to the 70's and 80's style...
    We'll all have to paint our streetrods monkey shit brown.

  26. I'm afraid I go all the way back to "neato, groovy, and even, swell". "Cool" has outlived them all.

    With the thumb out it means "I LOVE you!!!"

    With the thumb in, its the devil sign,

    so, either really love you, or think your badass....

    I think this falls under gesticulation..?

    all physical movements expressed must be considered,
    similar to verbal syntax.

    for example
    the fist pulled down could mean an emphatic agreement
    as in (gesture) "sweet!" or "yesss" ala Napoleon Dynamite et al

    or conversely a negative statement such as
    (gesture) "pull your head out of your ass, idiot!", used by road raging soccer moms etc.

    or even something as meaningless as
    (gesture) "honk", by the very young or retarded

    regardless,
    the proper response would be the same for this example,
    as it was the afore mentioned expression,
    simply flip them off.

    it's universal :)
