I have left my share behind too so I guess I am making up for the tools I lost.

  4. what's also funny Ray is, i was at an antique/estate store with my wife today. there was a whole shelf of used tools and sockets. as i was digging through them my wife asks what i was looking for. when i told her an adapter from 1/4" to 1/2 she asked me if i needed one.......... no, not really..........

I bought one too. Stahlwille will think they have an exploding market and probably build thousands. All because of Gimpy. :p

I wish we had those places out here. I used to go to all of them in the CT river valley, and buy them out.

Way too many people out here do that, and either simply collect, or flip on eBay, for max cash.

  12. there was a nice south bend lathe mounted to a cabinet $450, the tray of sockets was $15, and there was a crate of c-clamps $5 each.

    Hey Guys,

Today I received my Stahlwille 1/4” female to 1/2” male socket adaptor, that I ordered from an eBay listing by a tool dealer in Great Britain, that was linked on this thread......:)

I went to one where the guy had a box of pegs for pegboard.

I said how much are the pegs?
"$2-take as many as you want"
So I handed him $2 and picked up the whole box of 'em.
    He said "Hey!"
    I said "What?"

  19. Great...now I need one.....

Shipped from the UK to the US for 2 quid!!! You got a helluva deal there! I've just paid $14 shipping for my Alliance renewal! Ha ha. (stated for comparative purposes only - no criticism intended).

I don't understand what 'shipping' is involved with Alliance renewal.....I renew on line by credit card.
Are you referring to shipping for the Alliance metal tag that you receive?

I do likewise, online, but 'shipping' was required (I too assume for the tag I expect will be on its way anytime soon). I'm cool with it though - been an alliance member for about 10 years (got tags!) and never paid more than the $50 alliance sub, and always thought it curious that an International postage charge wasn't involved. Payback time!

    Anyway, back to Gimpys tool.....

Nice to see you guys exposed to Stahlwille tools.
Culver City BMW school introed me to them in the '60s, when I attended BMW school.
They had a nice assortment (big discount for a major German company!) and I bought a set of long combination wrenches. Others were purchased through the Company and mailed to my BMW dealership where I worked.
My Snap-Ons were getting 'nervous'...but they still kept their own drawers!

When I was stationed "over there" in the .mil I bought a used 3 series Beemer to bomb around in. Fun little car. At one point I took it in to a local independent auto shop for brake work. The german mechanics wear lab coats, sort of the standard "uniform". When I asked to have the disk rotors turned they looked offended, as if I wanted to push their grandmother down the stairs. They don't do that. I will say that car had the best brakes of any car I've ever driven. A little noisy and dusty, but really, really good.

Instead of buying, I borrowed from @gimpyshotrods and just forgot to return it.

No. But I betcha a soda he fucking looked though! LOL

Now I want one, and can't see much call for one for me though. Pinion preload is pretty specialized, don't see that in my future. 1/4" to 3/8" is one I like, if I'd ever remember to buy one.

  30. story originally told by Mark Twain about borrowing to acquire items:
"my neighbor who was wise to my theory, why buy when you can borrow, replied to my request to borrow a new book he had".
" sir you are welcome to borrow the book, but on the condition that you come over to my house to read it and it never leaves my property"
"so i did......i walked over and sat on his front porch and read that book........... i never forgot that.......then one day he comes over to ask if he could borrow my lawn mower, as his had broke.
"i replied, sir you are welcome to borrow my lawn mower, but on the condition it doesn't leave my property"
