I'm working on a 1953 Bel Air and I installed an open driveline from a 4x4 S-10 Blazer in it. The problem is I'm having excessive vibration while driving and im not sure if I have the driveline angle correct? I'm going to start from square one again and try to center the wheels in the wheel wells this time around. Can any of you who have done this conversion let me know some measurements that are important to this swap? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
do you mean a rearend from a 4x4 s10? pinion angle should match the angle at rear of trans. www.chevytalk.com post some pic's of your project.
hey RAT...check the U joints, to be sure their locked in. it's easy to get of center. i don't realy have enough info. to be more helpful, sorry but some pics. might help...POP.
to center the wheel in the wheel well using the original leaf springs, drill a 1/2" hole 1.75" or so to the front of the perch. I ran that way for two years before I put in Posies springs and an s10 4x4 rear. Did you have a driveshaft made, or did you source a used one?
check here http://www.vibratesoftware.com/html_help/html/Diagnosis/Propshaft/Propshaft_Angles.htm#Measure
keep the engine down about 3 degrees and the pinion up three degrees. As long as they are in the same plane
i work at the garage, i been replacin s10 4x4 reareand left and right, their know for bad bearing and weak gears. check the ujoint, put new one in or take the cover off see what it look like inside
I had a car where the previous owner installed the rear end 4 degrees down and it did not cause any terrible vibration. lots of stuff to cause vibration in a swap like this..
I got a used one from a guy who went the street rod route and put an LS1 and a six speed in his, but he had the driveshaft made and balanced. at least thats what he told me. Thanks for that measurement.
