Thanks for the update Mike...you guys are in my prayers. It sounds like she already has hold of daddy's heart - this is the beginning of a beautiful father and daughter relationship. I've had sole custody of my baby girl since she was a helpless 8 month old infant, I raised her completely on my own, and nearly 15 years later she's just about ready to get her driving permit...time flies.

Enjoy every breath with her and take nothing for granted. Blessings to you and your family...

it's true - when you hear your baby cry - after going through all that - it is a GREAT feeling - I kinda know what you are going through - we spent the first month with our 2nd baby in the intensive care unit - not much fun fer sure - and we may have to be spending her 2nd birthday there again for more heart surgery - which sucks - but I guess the doctors know what they are doing.....

we will pray for your entire family and that the doctors are able to work to the best of their ability when dealing with your little one.

Good luck and dont be afraid to leave the hospital every now and then - getting away from the madness - just for 20 minutes can do you some good.

Excellent news regarding your Daughter. It's also nice to hear that you've been able to relax just a bit and enjoy her beauty as opposed to worrying about her 100% of the day.........

  15. MIKEY, i have 3 beutifull girls, 1 grads from high school this friday. one from kinder tomarow and one from preschool last week, and my boy will start pre school...and love each and every one of them.
mikey, when my boy was born..(tears rolling}..he was still born..no heart beat, no pulse, and very blue,,
i was in the delivery room when the doctor first said baby was a girl..i already had 3 girls..then the doctor said..no its a boy...I SCREAMED THANK YOU GOD..then the doctor called for help..all kinds of nurses and docts come running in..they true my baby boy on the table like a rag doll and started cpr, and a bunch of other stuff..my boy was dead...he choked with his cord..i fell to my knees and prayed, cried, screamed, its seemed like hrs. next thing i heard was WE HAVE A PULSE..GOD ANSWERD MY PRAYERS.
AS 2 OF THE NURSES WALKED OUT OF THE ROOM AND PAASED ME, one said to the other, another brain dead baby...not knowing i was thier...wow that really hurt..
my boy was hospitalised 6 months due to a bad heart.. .. docts still did not think he would pull true... finally they said he could go home..
my boy is 1 very healthy kid. he has not been back to the hospital since..

    Mike,

Glad to hear that your daughter is doing better.

My daughter had 3 major kidney/bladder surgeries before she was 2 and is now living with one kidney but is 21 and doing great. We spent a lot of time at Childrens Mercy in Kansas City and all I can say about the doctors and nurses at the childrens' hospitals is that they are amazing.

Another amazing group is the Ronald McDonald House http://www.rmhc.org/about/ . We stayed for weeks at the house in KC basically for free. They try to make things as close to home and as easy for families as possible including providing food and a kitchen to cook it in. All they ask is for you to pay $25 a night if you can afford it, do a load of laundry and clean your room when you leave. If you need to spend any additional time at the hospital I would highly recommend looking into RMH.

I will be praying for your daughter, your family and your daughter's doctors/nurses. I know that prayers for my daughter were comforting to us. They helped us cope with a situation we could not understand.

As a closing thought below is a short article from Erma Bombeck that my wife read just a few weeks before our daughter was born. It helped her cope with our daughters medical problems and I hope it will help you and your wife as well.

"Most women become mothers by accident, some by choice, a few by social pressures, and a couple by habit. This year, nearly 100,000 women will become mothers of handicapped children. Did you ever wonder how mothers of handicapped children are chosen?

Somehow I visualize God hovering over Earth selecting his instruments for propagation with great care and deliberation. As he observes, he instructs his angels to make notes in a giant ledger. 'Armstrong, Beth, son, patron saint Matthew. Forrest, Marjorie, daughter, patron saint Cecelia. Rudledge, Carrie, twins, patron saint...give her Gerard. He's used to profanity.' Finally he passes a name to an angel and smiles, 'Give her a handicapped child.'

The angel is curious, 'Why this one, God? She's so happy.'

'Exactly,' says God. 'Could I give a handicapped child a mother who does not know laughter? That would be cruel.'

'But has she patience?' asks the angel.

'I don't want her to have too much patience, or she will drown in a sea of self pity and despair. Once the shock and resentment wear off, she'll handle it. She has that feeling of self and independence that is so rare and so necessary in a mother. You see, the child I'm going to give her has his own world. She has to make him live in her world, and that's not going to be easy.'

'But, Lord, I don't think that she even believes in you.'

God smiles, 'No matter. I can fix that. This one is perfect. She has just enough selfishness.'

The angel gasps, 'Selfishness? Is that a virtue?'

God nods, 'If she can't separate herself from the child occasionally, she'll never survive. Yes, here is a woman whom I will bless with a child less than perfect. She doesn't realize it yet, but she is to be envied. She will never take for granted a spoken word. She will never consider a step ordinary. When her child says Momma for the first time, she will be present at a miracle and know it! When she describes a tree or a sunset to her blind child, she will see it as few people ever see my creations.'

'I will permit her to see clearly the things I see...ignorance, cruelty, prejudice...and allow her to rise above them. She will never be alone. I will be at her side every minute of every day of her life, because she is doing my work as surely as she is here by my side.'

'And what about her patron saint?' asks the angel, pen poised in midair.

God smiles, 'A mirror will suffice.' "

:DThings are looking better each day. Today Juli was very sleepy. Normally she plays and looks around and interacts. I guess she had a rough night and it took alot out of her.

But she took the 3 bottles of milk no problem! :) We met with the surgeon and she said as long as Juli keeps progressing there is no reason she cant come home in a few days. We still are awating test results to determine what exactly caused all this... but getting her home and into a love-filled environment is a good thing.

We were planning on leaving tonight at 7 and the nurse told us we couldn't go because she needed to move Juli to a new area. The transitional ICU. This is where they take babies that are almost ready to go home. :)

So I'm giddy... and after we get Juli upstairs she wakes right up and becomes active... so I shot some pictures. This is the best of the bunch.

See, she looks like a baby again! All you can really see is the feeding tube that is in her nose and runs to her belly. And that will probably come out tomorrow!

Thanks again for all of your thoughts and prayers! She couldn't have done it so quick without all of you!!!!
