The car has been butchered with an s10 frame that I want to discard. The original frame is gone.I want to build it as a tail dragger custom with air bags in the rear to get it as low as possible.Does any of you hambers know where I can get the original frame specs.I also would appreciate any input as to chassis solutions for me.Im all so thinking of chopping the top about 3 inches.[IMG]

  2. I hate to ask this but what makes it a coupe sedan.

If it were me I would do one of two things, I would look for an original frame or a Ford Product from the same era. The Ford or Merc frame will probably be too short but you got to back half it anyway if you're gonna bag it. Use the frame rails and get the front axle where it is supposed to be, then back half it. Or I would just consider that all it has is a perimeter frame, get some 2x4x1/8 tubing and start measuring the body to see where your rails have to lie and go from there.

I can add thru experience that Art Morrison will build you an EXCELLENT frame specifically for this model and make it go as low as you want it to go, a bit expensive, but you get what you pay for...

If you're chopping the top, you can also fit the body to the frame (rather than vice versa).
An extreme case, just for example...

(EDIT: BTW, Ray Ericson and Doug Thompson were both involved with this build!)

Ford made 800 2dr sedans in 39 and they called them a coupe sedan.

  10. it was designated as an H-70
    cool car
if its built like regular Lincoln Zephyr it was a unibody
wonder how bad someone cut that up to do that S10 abomination to it?

DECO RIDES, a fiberglass Zephyr body, uses a Fatman fab chassis
google 'Scrape" a custom Zephyr built a while ago, used a late GM car chassis( I think)

that would make a killer tail dragger

Yeah they cut the floor and the original frame out ....I checked with fat man fab and they said the frame they may wouldn't fit an original Zephyr.

  12. that car deserves a nice chassis
a well planned build and execution on that car would get a lot of attention
as well as bump up the $$$ of it
are you up to building a chassis from scratch?

Not really. They have a normal (for the period) Fomoco type frame to which the body is riveted/welded in an attempt to avoid squeaks and provide additional rigidity, but this does not make it unibody, at least in the sense of not using an underlying frame (as compared with current automotive design). a unibody by definition
it may look different than today's unibodys but this is one

They were also called " Pedal Pushers" up in my neck of the woods.

  24. Thanks

They were called both where I grew up. Seems to me like in my mind Clam diggers were normal cloth and peddle pushers were stretch pants. No one told me that that I recall so it was probably just a little kids mind. :D
