I was at a junk yard this weekend and found a few complete I-beam front ends. Both had leaf springs on each side of the frame rail. Does anyone know what car they were originally on? Sorry no pics.
The yard guy said he would take $100 each. They are complete, spindle to spindle and include the steering links as well. Is this a good price?

    We need alot more info.

What are you going to do with it?

    What were the dimentions?

Distance from king pin center to king pin center

Distance center of spring mount to center of spring mount

Perhaps with this info we can narrow it down

  5. Lots of early cars (Chevrolet for one, I'm sure there were others) and lots of light trucks from many different manufacturers came with parallel leaf springs and I-beam axles over a span of probably 60+ years. So it would be hard to say exactly what they're off of. While they may be complete from spindle to spindle, there's surely something that needs to be repaired or replaced on them. I don't think I'd pay $100 for one.

They are hard to come by in my area so I was very happy with the deal, sell my old front-end for $100 probably not, what would I do for the next straight axle project.

To rebuild my old front end King-pins, bushings, Tie rod ends and honing, spring bushings, it would cost about $60 I checked.

So just suppose that the one/s in the first post came from a 48 Mac Truck, and the 48 Mack Truck was the only one in the world that ever used that combination on axle width and spring mount.
Unless you are inspided to use thos dimensions the set up is worth squat.

Oh and I live in the first house on the right.

  10. I think if you are able to positively identify the axles at this junk yard without a doubt, and are using them on the same kind of car/truck they came out of then perhaps they're worth the money. But to buy one with no idea of it's original application for use in some other non matching application just wouldn't be worth the trouble to me unless they were free.

You're going to find out pretty quick that this place is just not about making anything work. Most have very specific goals in mind.

And to get back to the main question, you're asking a lot - too much really. Question is too general and you have no real information. Sorry. Come back with some pictures or at the very least, measurements and it's very likely someone can help. Good luck.
