  4. 57 Olds 2Dr. Hrdtp. Loved them since I was a Junior in H.S. (1965) and still do. I've had a few cars over the years but never did get one of those. I always thought they had a real custom look right out of the showroom........... maybe someday. Here's a pic I pulled off the web. The only thing I'd do to this one is shave the deck lid, the car is perfect. 57 olds.jpg

In 1955 I was blinded by the '55 Chevy - I now think that the '55 Ford has better lines, and some of the mid -50's to 1960 Mopars I ignored back then are also my favorites.

As for Hot Rods two classics caught my eye back then , both built locally and way out of my league - '32 5window with an Olds in it, Robins Egg Blue (remember that Cadillac color?) and a red 36 coupe (Ford) with a 3-carbed Buick.

Had a '54 Chevy Fordor in high school only because it was a great deal one owner car back in 1968. Over the years the '54 Tudors look better and better. Still have all the cars & projects I really want, but can't help thinking about driving some type of Coupe sports car in the rain. Bob

  7. In 1968 I decided I wanted a Dodge A100, probably influenced by the Little Red Wagon and it took me until 2013 to build my equivalent vehicle here in Australia.

I could have had a real A100 but then under our Laws I couldn't have the engine in it I wanted nor where I wanted the engine.

Model A's, Corvette's, and foreign cars to put v8's in. My latest passion is 36 Fords.

My tastes haven't changed over the last 40 or so years. Still love a 55-7 Chevy hot rodded up, or a well done custom car. My first car was a 57 Ragtop, stolen in '79, only owned one since then, but I'd love to get another convert, and clone my original one. Being a "regular working man", my choice in customs has been "whatever comes up". I've owned my 55 Olds 34 years, built it up from stock. I've also gotten my hands on a 54 Chevy, 50 Chevy sedan delivery, 41 Ford, 61 Dodge, and 2 53 Lincolns. Not totally discerning, I'll take whatever car I run across, I think I might make a cool sled!

Tha first cars I think about that I couldn't stand back then were the 60's Mopars, especially the early 60's models. Thought they were just the ugliest things ever made. Now when I go to shows they're the first ones I seek out. Always like to talk to the owners too.

I used to read the small custom and hot rod magazines in the early 60's and dream of being in California with all the cool cars...But lived near NYC and traditional hot rods or any old cars were never seen. Plenty of hot 55 Chevys of course... I built a hot rod 37 Chevy truck 20 years ago but after 10 years I sold it... The problem is the attraction of motorcycles has been my real passion...Not to say I don't appreciate hot rods...

Thinking alot of my thoughts have changed with time/years gone by, BUT My thoughts on cars, favorites have not changed all that much because I like all cars, now I have a much bigger appreciation for restored stock and survivor cars. When I go to shows, I still check out Hot Rods, my next and last old car will be a resto mod style 57 Chevy, first car in 1964, currently own a restored 51 Buick Roadmaster, 51 Merc mild custom, a mint survivor Camaro ragtop (purchased new 89) mint Dodge Magnum RT, So as you can see, my taste in cars is not fixed on a one type, style, brand, have had a Highboy Roadster, a 32 3 window and Enjoyed/Enjoy them all and will till my time is up.

  13. I loved them then and love them now. Bu
t I'd still spend my money on an old Ford hot rod. I guess I like a lot of different cars but naturally gravitate to the 32-34 Ford.

  14. Granted, what floated my boat in my teens still does, that hasn't changed but some of the cars that didn't even rate on my on personal cool-o-meter now peels my interest.

for example,I wouldn't gave a station wagon a second look, much less spend a small fortune restoring one but that's exactly what I did.

Model T's,Model A's,Deuces, and 40 Fords will always be my personal favorites, but thanks to the Hamb my horizons have been expanded. HRP

I knew what I liked since I was a teenager and still love the same cars and parts and dislike the same ones that I did then. When I was growing up station wagons were a family car,not a cool car at all. I am blown away by all the guys my age that think they are cool now.

I think my beard is grey enough to jump in here. I wanted a two door hardtop when I was 16, preferably red and a big block, definitely not a 6 cylinder. I didn't want a four door at all. I already had a two door post 56 Ford but I was still working on it so it wasn't road worthy yet.

My Dad had a friend that was a car salesman. They had a low mileage 1967 Pontiac Tempest four door with a 6 cylinder automatic. They both thought that was the car for me but I definitely did not want that at all. Next Dad was pushing me to buy Great Uncle Weldon's 1964 Dodge Dart, another four door with a 6 cylinder but it was well cared for and extremely low miles. All I could think at the time of at the time was YUCK! I'd be happy to drive both of them now.

I looked at a number of cars. I could have bought a nice 1970 Ford Torino Cobra for $1650 powered by a 429 four speed and I wanted that bad but my parents vetoed it, too much power they said. :( I could have bought a nice SS396 Chevelle four speed for about the same money from the same guy but again the parents shot me down, Mom didn't like Chevys. Next I tried for a nice 1971 Chevelle convertible, it was a 307 automatic but once again my Mom knew somebody that had a convertible and rolled it killing himself so that was out. Then there was a 1967 Pontiac Catalina two door fastback with a 389 automatic that I tried out for several days, I think that dealer’s philosophy was that the car would grow on my parents and he would have a sale. My parent's weren't impressed with the bad shimmy it had right around the then speed limit on two lane roads in Iowa of 70 mph so it fell through also.

So one day my parents loaded me into the car and we went into town to an old schoolteacher friend of my Mom that owned a pink and white four door 1955 Ford. She had owned it for years, driven it 59,000 miles and named it Pinky. My parents instructed me to hand her $100 and I was the proud owner of another car I didn't want. At least it was a V8. I'd have been embarrassed to be seen in a pink car but I wasn't the only teenage boy in school driving a pink car. Two thousand miles later I bought a red 1968 Ford Galaxie two door hardtop, 390 automatic and parked old Pinky in the shed where she sits today. I should get her going and drive old Pinky once more, it's a lot cooler now than it was then.

    Is my beard grey enough?

But I don't have any of Pinky when she was running. I wasn't real proud of her when I was a teen and pictures were expensive compared to today.

  22. I you and I are pretty much on the same page. I have owned a 4 door before, but it was just a grocery getter.

I did almost buy one of these in '71. But it had a hemi in it.

Belonged to Colletti Chrysler Plymouth in Oregon. They got me financed, but one time in my life common sense got the best of me. The only thing that I can think of that would be cool about a more door even today is that you could build a sleeper out of it. ;)

Oh I looked in the mirror too, not a grey beard. Does white beard count? :D

The paint isn't as nice but it is original,Mikes car has a strong running flatty. HRP

  27. The one I rode in was actually that tannish/brownish color.

Original paint is the bomb, even old repaint is cool. And I am not MR Flathead, but if I had a running flatty I could grin and drive, no problems.

Somehow, I became a Ford Guy. Don't know exactly when it happened and I didn't plan it. It just sort of creeped up on me and now I own 4 Ford products.

When I was young (as well as now) I liked a wide variety of cars and never really focused on any style or brand. I love antiques, customs, hot rods, sports cars, street machines, muscle cars, road racers, foreign exotics, land yachts, and anything else with a "cool" factor. I guess some cars are just not cool, and those are the ones I ignore.

  29. I think I was always a ford guy and as I've said in the past my first car was a Deuce coupe.

I was hooked at a early age. HRP

  30. I was never all that picky as a teen; if it had four wheels and a motor, I was good to go, although I did avoid four doors as much as possible. Pretty much a Ford guy too, but some 'other' makes snuck in there from time to time. I owned my fair share of oddball or less-than-popular cars too; a couple of mid-50s Anglias and more than a few wagons. I was more about going fast, styling was a secondary consideration. I still want performance from my cars, but comfort has become equally important these days although I much prefer a manual trans over an automatic.

Have my tastes changed? Not really.... I have owned many of the 'bucket list' cars mentioned, but don't feel the need to revisit any of them. I do like owning the 'less common' cars; not seeing a near-copy of your 'popular' car matters to me.
