I have a rebuilt pair of F-250 backing plates with cylinders and shoes. Will they work on the front spindles of a Model A? How can I adapt them to work on the Model A?

I am actually doing this right now for my Model A.

The backing plates need an adapter to adapt to the a spindle. The backing plates have 3.9375" ID hole and the A spindles have 3.625" OD register.

As for the hubs, I am using '40-'42 ford. The a spindles are longer than the 40's and they need a 0.3125" spacer between the inner bearing and the spindle. This is the most that you can space the hub out before the inner bearing is no longer riding on the turned diameter.

Because the F250 shoes are 2" wide and I want to run wire wheels, I purchased 2" Lincoln drums from Speedway. The depth of the drums are too deep and there needs to be a spacer between the hub and drum. This spacer is about 0.400" thick.

Also the OD of the F250 backing plates are the same OD as the drums and do not fit in the recess of the inside lip of the drum. So, you have to grind/mill about a 1/16" off of the lip on the backing plates.

The blue pieces are 3d printed for mockup only. I am machining them out of steel.

In the end, I should have just bought a set of repro Lincoln brakes...

I would change the spindles. I put 46 48 spindles on my A axle. Just use the 46 48 kingpin kit. Then you shouldn't need the adapters.
