Sell it to someone who will save it, use the funds to buy an Auburn. :)

Pictures would only add to the trauma and induce more vomiting.

Is a ducktail the same as a boattail?

i thought it had to be, but not so sure now. the one we did years ago was boat-tailed and it was not pretty. i'm sure the original owner had a vision but was unable to communicate it with his body man or he did it himself and lacked the skills to pull it off. i will look for pics tomorrow. it will be painful to relive but for the good of the hamb i will try. oh and to top it off it was a coupster. (that part was actually done pretty well)

  17. That's Edsel's '33 Model 40 speedster that he and Bob Gregorie designed-

Here's his '32 (E. Ford and Gregorie designed this one as well... neither were overly happy with the outcome, which is why the Model 40 was built):

Is this what you mean by "ducktailing"?

Well, perhaps. But what is being described above is, to me anyway, not a duck tail but a BOAT tail.

Now... these pix are of cars with DUCK tails (or Kamm tails - after their designer). In the long lost past, duck tails were seen on on vintage supers and super-modifieds and sports cars like the Ferrari 250 and Cobra Daytona coupe. The "tails" are upswept!! Like a Ducks! I've never seen a duck tail on an old Ford. Might be a challenge. Boat tails would be a lot easier! But... humm... if you did fab an upswept tail on an old deuce coupe you'd have.... a wierd bird for sure. Gary

Its interesting to see the different responses to this question, my car has had the duck tails put in years ago in Calif.. Only one fellow knew about the mod so hats off to him, I don't know how it was done so taking it back out would be hard for me. Some guys think I was talking about boat tail but these duck tails are different. Supposed to copy a duck tail hair cut of the fifties, remember those? This is the best pic I could take, there are other things unique to my car like the recessed grille insert etc. but its an old Calif. car so I'll leave it alone. Thanks for all the input.

If you mean the flare of the bead over the fender area, that is stock on a '32 roadster. It's different than a coupe.

I don't see anything in that photo that is different from a stock roadster quarter unless someone has increased the flare of that bead a bit and from looking at a couple of photos of different cars I don't think that is the case.

Nope. I took this picture at Nats East in York, Pa in about 1993. It's the real deal.

The quarters on my green roadster look like this. I've never heard them called duck tails though. They have a distinctively deeper curve than the quarters on my other roadster which has a Brookville body.

A few old timers have told me that there were at least two different stamping dies used on original Ford roadster quarters. One looked like the Brookville quarters and the other and less common one looked like my green car's quarters.
