How many of us name our rides??

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Captain Neckbeard, Oct 11, 2012.

  1. I was just wondering if you guys name your rides.

I name mine as I'm building them. Seems to give them a personality. I also usually have the name pinstriped in an inconspicuous place. The rides I've named have been:

    Nelly - '53 2 door Belair
    Humpy - '41 Ford Tudor
Dicey Riley - '41 Plymouth Business Coupe

  7. My wife named mine the Thunderdome. Not sure if that's a compliment or a slam.

My daughter named the 48 when she was three or four and the name has stuck ever since. It's been known as "Little" ever since. My old 51 Merc never had a name in the 32 years I owned it except "The Merc". Fellow GIs at Fort Hood gave my then new 69 Olds Cutlass S the nickname of ''The Gray Ghost" when I was stationed there. I didn't know that until I was introduced to someone as the owner of the Gray Ghost one night. I street raced pretty hard in those days.

I aways find it funny when a friend or co-worker says "hows ... doing?" a UPS driver said it a few days ago, i forgot my cars name came up in the past conversation.

It's a great way to include the kids: My older son could only say "Bo-Bo" for convertible, so the 67 Galaxie is alwasy called the "Bo-Bo". My youngest son named our 46 Merc truck the "Old Man". Both have plates with those names on them. Mrs E-tek named her car "Lizzie" and only refers to it as such.

    It's a family car thing.

It ain't a stinkin boat !

Just realized I've never named many of my cars or trucks.
I do call them names, depending on what's going wrong in the garage or how well it ran on a road trip.
The only two I can think of naming were the pink 49 Ford coupe, called PINKY, or usually pos! And the <----yeller 41 Ford I traded Pinky for. We still call him/her SMILY. Just look into the face of a 1941 Ford and you'll know why.:D

  27. When my twin girls were young they call my black 65 Ford truck "Spot",,It took a while to figure it out and we were in the front yard and they were playing in the back and said"See Daddy,,,Spot" and they were pointing at the center of the top of the cab,,,I had forgotten about the 2 way radio antenna hole that had been filled several years before and had a Spot of red primer.

We have refereed to that truck as Spot ever since. HRP

I'm real creative with names, there's 'the sedan', 'the coupe', 'the truck', 'the wagon', etc.

Some guys ask about naming a car and some have answered "it will come to you"
Recently a co-worker passed away, a woman in her early 70's, fiesty and fun with a heart of gold. She was great to work with (I work at a furniture store, we do a lot of custom orders). She knew her fabrics better that any of us. One of her favorite fabrics is a colorful print of cartoonish tropical birds over a black background. So we used the fabric name and named our '65 T-Bird "Crazy Ol' Bird". So in your memory Marcia, this one's for you.
