So I kinda go through cars like water, and usually sell about three a year. I heard somewhere along the line you can only sell a certain number a year without being a dealer. Is there any truth to this? I don't want uncle Sam knocking on my door for back taxes or something.
It's not a federal thing as far as I know, it depends on your state. Just Call the DMV and ask, just don't give 'em your name or address!!!
Good question, i would like to know the answer myself. I was once told you could sell 8 but i'm really not sure. I'll wait to hear from an "EXPERT"......
Depends from state to state I think. And your right I believe its 4 or 5 here in Iowa. They are starting to watch it a bit more, with more requirements and restrictions. My friend here in town let go of his dealer license for this reason(Was a Pontiac dealer till 80, then sold old Pontiac's till this last year.).
This link says a license is required in Arkansas for 1 or more vehicles sold in a year; however, according to the state website, one can sell 4 vehicles a year in Arkansas without a license. Five or more vehicles requires a license.
Wisconsin says the limit is 5. Of course, they only have records of the ones that are titled in your name, not that I would ever sell a car that I hadn't transferred the title to my name nor would I suggest anyone else sell a car that way wink wink nudge nudge.
thats news to me, i still thought it was 3! i tried getting a dealers license when i was chasing down a truck my buddy wrecked that went to auction...they make that damn near impossible to obtain too!
I thought as long as you paid tax on 'em, as many as you could turn. But then, I'm no lawyer. My sister is, maybe she knows...
Hmmm... In Ohio you have to have a dealership in order to get a license. Bummer guess I'm stopping at 5, or they will go in my wifes name.
