Not sure how I fit into this, but my Dad bought the pickup new in '57-Chevy, then in the early 70's he bought a wrecked Corvette for $525.00 and put the LS5 th400 into it, he gave it to me when I was 16, but didn't get it in my name till I was 18....so family since '57, mine since '79...35+ years I guess.

Bought this photo of my 1912 Ford on eBay last month, restored by Elmer Bemius in time for the 1950 Glidden Tour, three months before I was born, restoration still looks good from 20 feet. It was the very first old car I was given a ride in around 1962, one of those life changing moments. Bought it in 1983 so I've had it for 34 years. Bob DSCF9500.JPG

  9. When I get done with a car I usually sell it. Lately I have been slowing down with age now 63.When I get done with the 56 Chrysler Windsor. I am going to look for another station wagon{I am a wagon guy} to trade for it and it may be my last one. I owned this 64 Buick station wagon for 4 years .That's about the longest I have owned one.Bruce. HPIM0811.JPG

I have had my ride since 1989- at age 16. I think it is really cool how long some of you all have had your cars and trucks. Great pics, too!

    Hello,

When I was 16, I had a 58 Chevy Impala for daily driving to school and back. I had to share it with my mom, so it really was not my own personal car. I took care of the Impala. But, as cool as it was, it did not work out well when going to the beach with surfboards sticking out of the back trunk.

    upload_2017-8-6_4-55-37.png
So, I searched high and low for a cool looking surf wagon and found an ex-hot rod, 40 Ford Sedan Delivery. I saw it driving around our old Westside neighborhood, and then at our cruising grounds in Bixby Knolls. So, that was the vehicle for my surf adventures.

That stock Flathead, 40 Ford Sedan Delivery took me 1000s of miles up and down the coast to various surf spots in the years that I owned it. But, I had to sell it in 1965 to fund going away to college. But for 4 years, it was the greatest surf mobile going for me. I did drive the 58 Impala on cruise nights and weekend drags, but the 40 was the coolest car for overall, riding around our teenage, stomping grounds.

It was especially cool if we arrived in front of those ever present surf movies at the local theaters and auditoriums. If there was a parking spot in front of the theater/auditorium, by chance, that was like a movie star getting out onto the red carpet before and after the show. Aaalrighttttt!

Jump up 10 years later. After my wife and I were turned away from an “out of town” check fiasco for a woody purchase, she put her efforts behind buying another sedan delivery. This time, she wanted a 32 Ford Sedan Delivery. But as rare as they are, there were some for sale, but out of our range. So, we checked out every ad possible and in a small OC speed shop, found another red 40 Ford Sedan Delivery. We changed things to make it look like the one I had in high school.

This time, the paint job was really a red-orange, whereas the 1961 version was “Salmon Pink.” This one had what sold my wife…A/C with a SBC motor. Now, it was cruising in comfort and she loved driving the sedan delivery every chance she got. It was my daily driver. We kept that one (71-76) until we had to sell it because of an expansion of our family and needed a larger single level house.

So, it looks like we kept those twin sedan delivery models for 4 years each. But, my wife’s next two cars she kept for 11 and 13 years. The 58 Impala? Well, I kept that car from 1958 to 1965, 7 years.

Remember, without pictures it never happened! Here's an older picture of my Vette, purchased in '93 as a basket case. Bought the FLH in '78, chopped.

40 years as of last April. Bought my 55 when I was 14 years old, (in April 1977), and paid for it with my paper route money.

volvo13.JPG Sold my badvolvo after 35 years of owning it. Building the replacement for the last 2 years. Too many toys, not enough time. Replacement is a 40 Chevy coupe.

  27. My avatar 55 Cameo, purchased from an auto wrecker in 1968. It hauled a camper all over Canada and the US, and has received 2 small blocks , and finally a 396 with an M21, installed in 1971. It is presently in the process of getting a 454.
I also have a 67 big block Caliente conv, approximately 25 years, and a 67 Mercury 1 ton, approximately 30 years, among others.
Stuff that enters my yard never seems to leave.
