how do you drill a hole in leaf spring

  1. Bingo !! Firm pressure and low speed for sure and if the bit chatters your done. Either re-sharpen the bit or replace it. And the best drill bit lubricant is LARD >>>>.

No one else has asked, so I will. I'm NOT doubting this works, I've heard of it before. What I'm wondering is why? DO you know, is it a chemical reaction?? Exclude oxygen?

I'd chuck it in a 6 inch vise on a Bridgeport.. And start off with a spot drill, drill, end-mill and finish the hole size with a reamer. Finish off with chamfering both ends of the hole...

If I really have to , I use plenty of lube on the point and as slow as possible and let the drill bit do the work , not pressing with all your weight either .
