Sorry let me rephrase all this. The GMC hubcaps, how do they fit onto a rim? Do they just snap in or is there a bracket that they clip into or what? I've never had wheels like that so I don't know. Would like to run some steelies with those hubcaps on my truck.
I think I could make something that would fit onto my lug nuts and hold the center caps onto my wheels, not sure how I'd do it though, I wish I could see a photo of the rear of these. If I got the black wheels, would I need the spring clips or whatever?
55-59 truck cap will not work on the first wheel. The wheels you need use clips that snap into a flange on the back. You can buy clips and tack weld them to newer wheels. I modify the caps with a new flange so they will fit smoothie wheels. Those caps will not fit the wheels with the big nubs on the outside of the center.. The cap needed for those big nub wheels is 10 1/8" across the mounting flange....a set of those caps is about 190.00 Jason.
Whoa - are you sure that these repro hubcaps affix the same way as the stockers? Why not invest in a telephone call to Bob at The Wheelsmith? It will save a lot of time and conjecture. He'll tell you straight out what will and will not work. Also they do custom adaptations and will be adapting some stock 1940 Willys hubcaps to fit their smoothie wheels for me. So make the call - it may save you a lot of heartache and wasted $$$. My $0.02
I mod old caps to fit the newer wheels also. I have even done a set of those exact caps for a truck used in a commercial....It involves cutting off the flange on the back and welding on a new flange.. There is a movie production company I build wheels for and they need it all the time. They put new steel wheels on the stunt cars with old caps... Jason.
BTW "rims" are usually 20"+ in diameter, chromed, and found on H2's, Escalades, or other lame ass SUVs. The proper term is "wheel".
The term "Chrome Rims" has been in use for a long time. And it's been common before that to call wheels "rims." If the Bling-Bling troops want to call their big wheels rims, who cares?
