History How did you find the Hamb?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Jul 15, 2015.

  1. Did someone tell you about it or did you just stumble up on it?

My friend Randy Nash (Deuce Roadster) was telling me about it at a Goodguys event a long time ago and I joined a few months later.

I didn't know much about computers and had my daughters show me how to navigate, how to post and generally how to type.

It took forever hunting for each letter and one finger typing but I am sure glad Randy turned me on to the Hamb.

Heard about it from fellow Hot Rodders, checked it out and signed on. I think its a very Kool site with a alot of knowledgeable members, enjoy the history, pics and posts, some very entertaining at times. In my retirement, I have time w/ my morning coffee to check it out, have learned a few things, used the HAMB as a information base on occasion and have made some new friends w/ same car crazy addiction.

  4. Tommy on here (long time HAMBer) kept telling me about the site around 2005. After a number of times of him telling me it was the place to be, I finally joined up in 2007. Met a lot of great folks and inter-acted with dozens more over the years. Thanks, Ryan, for the foresight and ingenuity to start and continue to manage this place. I'm sure he could have sold it to some corporate entity any time for a tidy sum and they would have totally screwed it up. I think we all take it for granted at times and should really appreciate the extraordinary resource it is and the spirit of a hot-rodding community that it fosters.

I am not sure how I found it, but I would of never guess it from the title; H.A.M.B. Never posted any pictures or try to sell any parts of cars, just use it as a reference. Learn a lot and since joining never had to spend a dime or a dollar on a hot rod magazine.

Dennis Mcphail told me about it. He said I needed to join and post pics of the car I just built (the Futurian). I couldn't figure out how to post pics but Ryan did it for me. That was back in the spring of 2001

Here is a pic of Mcphail doing the layout on it. I tried and tried and just couldn't muster enough artistic ability but he made it look easy.

Link from garage journal, was looking for some advice on a building project, joined the HAMB. Let's just say the house project didn't get done that day.

I'd heard about it but my experience with forums wasn't good. I got a bit bored one night a few years ago and had a look.
I'm still looking. lots of great stories and information. I'm hooked now!

My Son Dan told me about it. He said "There is a forum based on the kinds of cars we like." I was pretty computer illiterate back then (not much better now:rolleyes:) so he had to log on for me.

Thanks to all of you who have helped directly and indirectly on the Nomad build.

I was tiring of roddingroundtable which was dominated by one argumentative guy who would respond to his own posts if everyone ignored them. Germ would drop in occasionally to poke him. I followed Germ back to the HAMB and stayed.

I stumbled on it plenty of years ago. Just got on it now and then as a lurker. After a few years, I finally joined up. Took a while after I joined even to post my Intro - I had no idea what I was doing. Then I took ages to join into a conversation. It's only since Ryan's update to the overall layout that I've found out how to post any pics.
It's a great place - so many different personalities, most great. I'm glad to be here sharing it.
Thanks to Ryan for starting this for us - I hope we can keep it true, fun and helpful as he intends.

  22. I found it surfing, not long after hooking up on the net at my studio.
Back then, I'd not long discovered those evil rr cars, and the Hamb made me see the era of my ways.:DIt has taught me how to use a computer, from posting pics, to most everything else possible here.
Thanks to all who make this place tick, and all those I've made friends with along the way. :)

I was looking for a 1930's Dodge truck, and the H.A.M.B. came up. I joined up the next day, went on a quest for a first edition shift knob. Got the knob, and have been telling everyone I talk to about the H.A.M.B. It has given me a bunch of info, and I am starting to meet people at shows now, that have the same interest.

I found Clark's T on ebay on Friday night, September 2007. Saw the car and bought it the next day, Saturday afternoon. Clark said I have to join the HAMB so I did :)

Turned onto the H.A.M.B. by a friend. I work in the boat biz, so I spend a fair amount of time dealing with the drama, torches, and pitchforks that seem to permeate the related sites. It's great to come back here to relative peace - where its still about the cars. Thanks Ryan for keeping it that way.

I was visiting my Brother in Kansas City and he introduced me to Kevin Lee and he suggested I look here for a T-5 to torque tube adapter he saw on here. I found the thread and ended up buying one of the adapters. I was hooked.

I just kinda wandered in about 98 or 99, there were just a handful of guys here back then. I really didn't understand the message board philosophy, so I just kinda started reading. The first guys I met were JK and Hard Luck. Ryan was still going to school at OU and the whole traditional rods craze had just began to pick up steam. It was a lot less informative back then, just a bunch of guys bsing about whatever.....
