Yes, the grill shell is a 50 Merc piece. Still thinking on the details of what grille, or pieces of grille to use. Won't use DeSoto teeth, or 54 Chevy grille designs.

Yes John, that is the current plan. Keeping my eye out for a 49 Merc also. Bucket List item would be all three years.

I put 54 Merc taillights in my 53 Merc, when first did it
the bezals were broken and glued them togather than
painted the bezals the body color.
Finaly got a good chromeable set.
Cut off the back-up part of the bezal, had them rechromed.
Used repro lens that to light,so added 56 chevy lens inside.

    Looking really nice Nick (ChopnWeld).

  15. Looking good Nick!

I went out to replace the poorly done hanging pedal assembly in mine and ended up tosing the dash, wiring, brakes and steering column. A couple weekend job had just turned into all summer....at least. ;)

Thanks Ace, slddnmatt, enfield joe, prostock, dr dave and all the Merc posse; it's a long and windy road with these sleds! Gotta be patient.

  19. Yeah I've learned that over time Nick, I had no idea.

I still won't have my interior done when I start driving the car.

It does take time, I was just going to put power steering and a C6 behind the flathead..... It turned into - frame off, floor boards rockers fire wall, SBC, power steering, AC Power disk brakes, electric windows, 56 packard lights, canted headlights lowering blocks trick steering linkage, lower coil springs. I thought about putting bags and a four link and decided I had to draw the line!

    But you guys inspire me!

  25. You better drive it down here when it's done! At least, when it's drivable....Looks like it's coming along fine. Don't hurry it. It will be ready when your happy with it,NOT when everybody else is.

  26. Mine is coming along slowly but surely. Thanks Slddnmatt :)[IMG]

  28. Glad to see everyone is busy at it and things are looking so good!!!
Im still buttoning up odds and ends here. The little stuff that takes so long! Trying to get it ready to drive to LARS in June. Ready to start on the one in the basement!!!!
I might be shifting gears on the second one and gutted a 65 Tbird for its interior so I dont think Im going to use the 59ish tbird rear seat and I got anouther 53 Desoto grill so the 54 Chevrolet grill and surround may be up for grabs too,,,,,options, options.
Ill post some of this on the Merc board and for sale later, just tossing it around here first. Chad
