I had a post taken down because it showed foreign cars in the picture. My question is, my wife has an Austin Healy with a 302 Ford. Is it a hot rod ?or just a foreign car with an American v8 ?Is an AC Bristol with Ford engine a hot rod ?(cobra) or just a foreign car with an American v8. How about sunbeam tiger ? Same here. Is this snobbery ? I consider all hot rods.
Facel Vega with a Hemi also comes to mind. I would consider it a Hot Rod yes, but I don't make the rules here. Traditional spoken here, and it definitely leaves room for interpretation.
there's people who have been here for years and still don't have a clue of the focus of the hamb. the forum belongs to Ryan, he clearly states up top in the stickies the narrow focus of the hamb. sure, there are street rods, rat rods and muscle cars that a large part of the general population thinks are cool and what they consider to be hot rods and they very well may be but in the eye of the hamb, if we are to stay true to Ryan's true intent and focus are not allowed here. there may be another site that is better suited for that material
Some easy clarification: 302 Ford appeared in 1968. This is 4 years after the "Nothing after 1964" rules.
Since you asked, I will agree with this description. And a Jensen Interceptor with a BB Chrysler engine. There are multiple small car makers who have used American engines to power their creations. But that's just how they made the cars, it does not make them hot rods. (De Tomaso is another one) Calling something a hot rod doesn't necessarily make it so. As we know, in the many 'things that piss you off' threads, one of the first things that comes up is people calling their nice shiny, finished hot rod a 'rat rod.' Is it a rat rod because someone calls it that? Of course not. People also bring up 'John Force calls his funny car a hot rod.' That's another eye roll.
I would like to know the full story, were they post 65, or Tech-No rodded? There has always been a connection hot rods and sports cars. Where do N.H.R.A. Modified Sports class car fit? BMW Veritas Italian Bandini with a blown Cad Larry Shinoda was deeply involved with Corvette design
I suggest you look at the rules here: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/the-h-a-m-b-rules-guidelines.44274/ pay particular attention to number 4 that clearly states 4. We cover traditional '65 and older American cars only. All other threads will be deleted. We don't cover rat rods, muscle cars, mustangs, or VWs. There are some foreign cars that were popular as drag cars in the era we cover such as Anglias and Fiat topolinos these get a pass. as far as your thread on a bunch of sports cars , I am sure there are plenty of sites that would love to host it. That stuff is not for the Hamb
Yes, that’s why an asked what is the full story. There are always two sides, was someone was posting photos of sports cars that had no connection to hot rodding? Were they U.S. V8 powered drag cars? Was it a street driven M.G. that someone put a 265 in in 1956? Context is very important.
