  1. You guys probably wont believe me but there is an arcade in Santa Cruz were you can still buy the bigger cards from the vending machines.

Love the shot of the rally Comet in the third page. I think that's the East Afican Safari pictured.

  3. That's why I LOVE those older Kiwi rods. Six-deuce Y-Block in the Dodge bucket -- dig it the most! Would love to see the backside scan of this card, too.

I know my father has a full set of the Spec Sheet cards. I believe they were released by Hot Rod Magazine sometime in the 60s. I might be able to make some scans.

I think he's also got a full set of "Fleer Drag" cards from around then as well.

I had those when I was a kid, also had some that came in Sugar Daddy candy. Loved those cards.

Hey Kev , This may be a bit off the topic of this thread but here is a pic a few months ago of Bills grandaughter from Texas with the car now, took her for a ride in it and gave her a set of the cards and some other mags and stuff featuring the car. She was the one who put me in touch with Bills son who sent me the crown aircleaners and dipstick that his dad had passed on to him before he died.

  10. I bought a deck of these at an estate sale, not trading cards but some kind of playing cards

Not long ago I was helping a freind have an estate sale in Wichita Ks. and one of the bedrooms in the basement had three walls decorated in trading cards. It was so cool I just looked in amazement. I was able to save only two cards all of the rest were glued and stapled. I am sure the rest were destroyed.

Great set of pictures JB. Suddenly it's 1964 again! Saw a lot of cards I remember having. Thanks for the effort to post them.

Based on the Hollywood Blvd. address, those must be late fifties, early sixties. Also $3.25 for a 10 month sub wasn't all that great. Torco Oil did a series of Torco Wall of Fame trading cards featuring drag racing stars. Ads offered a free set of cards. However, HOT ROD made Torco pull the ads when parents complained that their kids were not only getting a set of cards, but a New Testament bible.

Here are a couple that Von Franko gave me one visit in the early '90s just after we both got our roadsters on the road. I didn't even know of them before. He must have had a bunch. I can't believe he would give me his last two.
