That artwork appeared on one side of a tin board game. As I recall, the other side has an oval race track with lanes and spaces, and you moved little diecast racers around the track according to a spinner. I would guess that your sign was repopped from the art on the board game.

I have the game somewhere, but I don't know where it is at the moment.

  2. Most of those auto racing games used Tootsietoy race cars as the board pieces- each a different color and brand: Simplex, Mercer, Stutz, etc

Here's one of mine I got back in 66 when we came back from Germany after dads 3 year of being stationed there.
It was the day before my birthday when we came ashore an mom let me pick out a present in the PX before we left the ship. Its a 007 car hard to believe I still have it. 20141105_211117.jpg

In post #459 that really looks like a young version of actor Eddie Albert ( Green Acres) in the photo holding the tether car. His age and the apparent age of that photo seem to line up. I wonder, might this be him? Rb,I really enjoy your posts. Thanks for posting.

Pressed steel, each one slightly different, no makers name but all share same mechanism and wheel base (about 10 inches)

Maverick Daddy, a gold Tonka was my first pickup. About 5 years ago I bought a duplicate at the Frog Follies swapmeet for $50.00 just to have one on the shelf in the garage. It reminds me of when my life was a hell of alot simpler.
