I always thought "decking" a car meant removing the chrome trim from the rear of the car for a cleaner look. Turns out it really has something to do with chopping a top. I am corrected.

And I screwed up the RR question too.
    I am indoctrinated.

The whole point is that we are right and they are wrong. Two questions are wrong--decking and the R word. Plus I like the LA roadster show better!

I only got 7 out of 10. I must not know much about "Hotrods".

The test reminds me of that guy from the video of the Hollywood Hot Rods gig.

...I wonder if they are the same person.

They are the one that got the RR question wrong. Not us.

Definitions are like putting rocks in boxes and shaking them up, then pouring them over a cliff and then going down and trying to sort them out from all the other rocks that have accumulated for the last million years.

A decked rod (in 1955) was a car with all the bright trim removed, including door handles, and filled smooth, no matter what somebody today decides it means to them. I 'decked' a 1951 Willys Aero Lark in 1957 and installed electric solenoids to unlatch the doors, activated by a aftermarket horn button located on the underside of the body. Now, if somebody says I was wrong, that's just one mans opinion. Vote it down, when all is said and done, I still "decked" it.;)

  20. I agree ... I came across it last night (looking for pics for my 1948 Davis 3-Wheeler thread on the Turbo.com website) ... and made the mistake of taking their "stoopid" HOW HOT RODS WORK QUIZ ... I was even gonna start a thread about how stupid it was ... with these pics:

You are correct about the meaning of decking. Cars were not chopped and decked. They were nosed and decked.

I agree, the RR question is BS.

So many rod and custom terms these days are bandied about describing techniques and/or items that are not correct at all. One of the most common misuses is the term "frenched" being used when describing "tunnelled" parts.

Decking has always been removing the handle/ornament off the trunk/deck lid and making the deck lid slick.

Nosing is taking the hood ornament off and filling the holes smooth.

Dechroming is/was taking the door handles and or side trim off.

The trouble with these tests is that they are usually made up by someone using the terms that are used in their local or group and those may not be the terms that the majority of folks are used to.

i got the ratrod thing wrong too... they're wrong though. all hotrods are stripped down hotrods. thats part of the point of a hotrod. i thought decking was like nosing, but on the deck lid, am i wrong?
