I made it to the one about the auto theft ring. Actually a pretty good story line. There was a boat load of sweet roadsters in the previous flicks.
(not to mention a covey of vintage (new then)Strats, basses, amps..etc. in the music scenes )
Probably worth as much as the cars today...:D

TCM says "Hot Rod", "Jalopy" and "Rebel Without a Cause" will be available on demand until 8/2:

I liked "Hot Rod" although it was a little like "Father Knows Best" and wondered whether life was ever so simple that the biggest problem was worrying about a bunch of "wild" kids driving around in their hot rods? Now movies are all about teens shooting each other and drugs, etc. etc.

Could only take so much of "Hot Rod Gang" before tuning out. Seeing the Ala Kart was cool and I had never seen the sport of "curb running " before.

As to the ladies foundation garments, I think Bob Seger said it best:
    Tight pants points hardly reknown
She was a black-haired beauty with big dark eyes
And points all her own sitting way up high
    Way up firm and high

Had to laugh at the line in "Hot Rod Gang" .... "Miss Girdle Buster of 1958".

Loved them! Ghost of Dragstrip Hollow was laughably bad...but the cars were cool and it was fun to watch! Kind of like a live action episode of Scooby Doo. lol Makes me wonder why we can have good clean fun movies and shows like that today? Now days a movie like that would be full of drugs and sex.

  8. I'm spoiled by the TV movie 'Hot Rod Willys'. A couple of "A" actors, pretty much "C" acting (you can tell everyone was in it for a paycheck, probably covered dinner and a movie), but Academy Award performance by the '42 Willys coupe. Can't take any other hot rod movies; acting is usually SO bad and not interested in the mostly Phord cars. Two Lane Blacktop gets rave reviews on rodding blogs but I was totally bored within 5 minutes. Really horrid movie.

Of course there is American Graffiti but that is in a class all by itself. Absolutely best 'hot rod' type movie ever.
