More than 30 pages of traditional hot rod stuff in this issue....

  10. Imagine that – hot rods in Hot Rod Magazine. For far too long that mag has been on a non-hot rod path. I'll have to see what the content looks like for a bit before I subscribe though.

FWIW, I did the Hot Rod Power Tour this year and counted maybe 12 - 15 hot rods total. Of course that's looking through a pretty strict HAMBish lens, so I think Hot Rod Mag and their core readers are infinitely more interested in newer stuff, i.e. an LS in everything, and an LS swapped 68 Camaro (or fill in whatever garden variety 80s/90s car you can imagine) is a hot rod in their minds.

  11. I've been a subscriber for over a year now and there's always something for the trad. guy in every issue.

Looks like a good issue. I finally refused to renew after 60 years as a subscriber, even though they were practically giving it away. There hadn’t been anything I was interested in Hot Rod for quite a while.

  14. I'll pick up that issue on the newsstand, but not going to back to a subscription. Too many years of flipping through ads to find the two articles I wanted to read.

  15. I admit I haven't subscribed to Hot Rod since the early 90s, and even back then the content was definitely a mixed bag of stories and tech (remember pro street?), but I have been paying attention.

The issue highlighted in this thread appears to be focused on looking back to the first issue from 75 years ago, so naturally much of the content is retro/traditional and borrowed from that first mag. But in the TOC, there's also an article on G-Body steering box upgrades, installing a 6 speed manual, modern Corvette racing, and an LS versus small block dyno challenge.

Ultimately, I like cars, and I don't limit my interests to HAMB-era-specific stuff. My observation above was simply to point out the irony of Hot Rod Magazine actually publishing an issue primarily focused on hot rods. :)

@26hotrod i want to say a year subscription is less that cover price of one issue on the news stand so I don’t think you’d be out much if you only got a few issues out of it

  18. I have subscribed to HRM since 1956. I will continue to subscribe as I am 82 years old, and I am not a quitter. Yes, most of the last few years issues were not of much interest to me, but I am still subscribing. I would like to know if there is anyone who has continually subscribed longer than I have.

When I pulled my copy out of the mailbox today I was all set to post about it but I shoulda known that @Moriarity was already on it. :)
But as much as I like this issue, I think they need to hire a proofreader.
I borrowed and edited Mark's photos to illustrate. Draw yer own conclusions! :D

How could someone not find something of interest to read for 56 cents an issue?

What’s the deal for subscribing on the “lap card” in the latest magazine?
Don’t know if the subscription deals websites are all legit.

My HRM collection starts in 1953. I gave up when they started writing about drag boats, go-carts, and worse. Maybe I'll pick up this issue at Barnes and Noble on Monday. Meanwhile I need to do a few things on my '37 sedan. Thanks for this tip.
