Great stuff, thanks again for the History Lesson to everyone involved in this thread. I didn't know that Dallas had such an early and varied hot rod history.

That's really bad news to hear about the photos. Did he have any other cars besides the Bandini?

325w - That is a nice looking program. It must have been quite a sight to see the stock cars racing on the Arlington Downs track. Thanks for sharing.

  5. Karl..Mr Kirby ran a blown Cad-Allard before the Bandini....His oldest son,Butch,raced a 57 T-Bird..with not much success..
Look back on page 15,post #427,,In background of the "Ramrods" car you can see Kirbys
trailer that he hauled the Allard to races with..And Butchs T-Bird along side..This was in days before the Bandini

Has anyone got any pictures ot the Circle Drag Strip, or Cedar Hill Drag Strip. The Circle was located off Stemmons Freeway behind Speed Zone, there is a concrete recycle plant on the starting line now. And Cedar Hill was owned by George Hill, located in Cedar Hill off Hwy. 67 it's all houses now.

Bob Taylor had a twin engine dragster called the Big Hoss and I believe at one time he owned the Red Hoss which was the Scorpion #1. He also lived in Cockrell Hill a few blocks from Carl's Stones shop.

It appears that the 32 3 window in post 495 either lost a radiator hose or an engine. Bummer deal.

(I did not grow up in the Dallas area. I moved to Dallas (Oak Cliff) in 1981 at age 22.)

I have heard that there was a time that you could cruise all the way around White Rock Lake. Does anyone remember anything about cruising around white rock lake? I have an OT picture of a chopper at White Rock "cruising" in 1970.

    GaryC.

Here's some artwork I did several years ago.
I noticed The RamRod's coupe photos as I was browsing through.
I also remember seeing the Cad/Bandini in magazines around the early '60s.
I might have to do that one soon! RamRods.jpg

  23. Had a chopped 46 knuckle in71 and crushed around white rock many times , but what I do rember was going one way and turning around and going back the other . But you know what they they say , if you can remember you weren't there . It was the 70's .

  24. Karl,
Back in the 60s,we would take the kids out to White Rock Lake for easter egg hunting...As I recall, there was no road to completely encircle the Lake..Actually,there was no way to cross over down by the dam we either cruised the north side or the south side

yup, we lived up audelia from white rock lake in the 60s. You could drive both ways around the lake with the exception of a stretch down by the spillway. The old fish hatchery ponds were still there along with the old bath house on the south side. You could also drive by the Hunt brother's house.
We used to go to the park on Sunday nights and look for coke bottles and bottle caps. The bottles were worth 2cents each, and the caps had corks if you collected all the corks you could get a cheap plastic cowboy football. If you found a quart coke bottle that was worth 10 cents!

  28. IShot....correct on the twin - I have pictures he gave me....and also of the "Red Hoss"....think the front axle from Scorpian1/Red Hoss made it onto the twin....will have to ask him.....not sure if it's okay to post pics on this thread or DC in Motion....some are still shots.....

Seeking more information about the Cadillac Bandini:

I received a note from a fellow HAMBer who is a relative of the maker of the Bandini autotomobiles in Italy. He is interested in any more information he can get about L.C. Kirby's Bandini drag car. WBRW do you remember any more details about the history of the car??etc. Anyone. Thanks.
