On Monday, 9/9, nine of the Kontinentals crew from Austin and Houston departed for a week-long run to Hot Rod Hill Climb in Central City, Colorado. Our little caravan consisted of Reggie's '34 5-window, Ben's '32 flathead roadster, John's '32 SBC roadster, Brian's '29 flathead sedan, and my '32 SBC sedan, and we covered 2137 miles across seven days, taking time out to explore Taos and a couple of overnights in historic old buildings. Aside from a single fuel pump issue that was band-aided on the road and fixed in Taos... and a couple of lost hubcaps early on... we made the trip with no drama whatsoever.

If you haven't done the Hot Rod Hill Climb yet, do it... it's a great event! Here's some pics.

Looks like a great trip even with a couple hiccups. I was wondering what the large house in the last pic was, possibly a B & B? It's a neat pic with the hot rods and flags.

It's 'The Presidents' House' in Plainview, TX, and it's available as a BnB. It was built (like a fortress) in 1936 and served as the home for the presidents of a local university until 2016. We had the whole place to ourselves!!!! Highly recommend it for folks passing thru.

    Great post!

It was awesome watching the caravans from all over the country on social media headed to Colorado.

I feel like your post exemplifies the whole idea/vibe.

It’s not just about the blast up the hill

It’s the road trip, the stories, the insane routes and views to be had once you’re here and most obvious the people.

I was completely and totally over whelmed with it all as this was our first time and I’ve got to say it’s something everyone has to see in person to even grasp fully.

Normally if I drive 11+ hours one way for a show I leave thinking it was fun, worth the drive, but I don’t know if I need to do that again.

But I found the further into the drive home I was the more I began thinking of the next time we go and who I convince they need to go in the mean time

As an aside after 700+ miles we got into the area in the dark. Bleary eyed everything was darkness or a glare. I was white knuckling it around blind mountain curves saying out loud that this was maybe a dumb idea.

I’d driven all day and hadn’t seen a single hot rod. I was exhausted.

As I hunkered down for another curve Ben races up behind us in the roadster, top down, down shifts and just blows by me threw the curve and off onto the central city exit. Lit by what felt like the only street lamp on the road it was as if it were a spot light.

It completely changed my mood and made me excited that we had finally made it

We really enjoyed the Reliability Run on Friday last year. We drove out Hwy. 50 from Wichita westward and stayed in Idaho Springs. It was a great trip and a great event. Thanks again for sharing.
