Movies don't get much worse than the low budget hot rod movies of the 1950's. Still, there's something novel about watching them. If you can get past the terrible plot lines and the complete absence of acting, you can usually find all sorts of shit w...

To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
thank's for posting that , i had it on VHS tape but the machine ate it so it's been a while since i've seen it
The best deal is to buy the 4 disc set "Burnt Rubber". I'm sure you can still find it. It has 20 movies on it including Hot Rod Girl and one of my favorites "The Choppers".
Another good one is "Dragstrip Girl" with Frank Gorshin, Tommy Ivo, Grabowski, and others. Terrible acting but some great cars. I get all my vintage CD's from John at Vintage Torque. He has just about everything worth watching.
Didn't all those old B hot rod movies suck? I only have one, The Wild Ride, with Jack Nicholson. He's the only reason I got it. It blows. Tarantino's latest two are even worse, if that's possible. Gary
I have this on dvd. My wife got it for me for Christmas. I love it. It's not eben really about he girl in it. The story is ok.
Glen, is on the money, want the best ? deal with Vintage Tourque for the ones no one else has. The kind---- ~Sololobo~
I got that movie for my 70 year old dad as a goof about 10 years ago. I can't stop watching it. Bronc Talbot is one of my favorite villans of all time. I also love watching the kids try to snap to the beat whilst the jukebox is playing. 1. Possibly the worst fight scene ever. 2. Worst teen dancing ever. 3. Cool cars. 4. A very square Chuck Connors. 5. The scene where the main character's estranged girlfriend "comes in for coffe and he makes her leave before it gets to hot. 5. Lamest chase ending in death ever filmed X2. It's got it ALL!
Like wvenfield said, Burnt Rubber is a great way to build an instant collection of these movies. I really like watching them, but I gotta do it alone, most people can't make it past the first 5 minutes, but like I said, I love 'em. There are 20 movies including hot rod girl, for about $10. here's a list- Bail Out ("W.B., Blue And The Bean") (1989) - David Hasselhoff/Linda Blair The Big Wheel (1949) - Mickey Rooney/Thomas Mitchell Blonde Comet (1941) - Virginia Vale/Barney Oldfield Born To Be Wild (1938) - Ralph Byrd/Ward Bond Burn 'Em Up Barnes (Pts. 1 & 2) (1934) - Jack Mulhall/Lola Lane The Choppers (1961) - Arch Hall Jr./Marianne Gaba Danger On Wheels (1940) - Richard Arlen/Andy Devine The Devil On Wheels (1947) - Noreen Nash/Darryl Hickman Double Nickels (1977) - Ed Abrams/Mick Brennan The Fast And The Furious (1955) - John Ireland/Dorothy Malone High Gear (1933) - James Murray/Joan Marsh Hot Rod Girl (1956) - Lori Nelson/Chuck Connors/Frank Gorshin (in support) In Hot Pursuit ("Polk County Pot Plane") (1977) - Don Watson/Bobby Watson Killing Cars (W. Germany-1986) - Jürgen Prochnow/William Conrad (in support) The (Richard) Petty Story (1974) - Noah Beery Jr./Richard Petty (in support) Speed To Spare (1948) - Richard Arlen/Jean Rogers T-Bird Gang (1959) - John Brinkley/Ed Nelson/ Vic Tayback (minor role) Ten Laps To Go (1936) - Rex Lease/Duncan Renaldo/Yakima Canutt The Wild Ride (1960) - Jack Nicholson/Georgianna Carte
I've got to start watchin more TV. I don't think I have seen any of the ones roddinron listed. Thanks for the list!
I wouldn't suggest you watch more TV, but this is probably better than most of the shit that comes through your cable or satellite! Even though, for the most part, they're not really very good movies.
These flicks are pretty stupid but still fun. Best viewed with "tongue in cheek," as they say. My personal favorite is the truly bizarre "T-bird Gang" which features Junior Conway's mild custom shoebox Ford club coupe.
A friend of mine (he's on the HAMB) owned that car for a while here in Pa. It ended life sunk in the mud at local junkyard then later crushed.
"choppers" and "attack of the giant gilla monster" are my two favorites. I liked california kid until i sold my 34 ford. now it hurts me to watch it.
Funny story about this; I bought this on DVD for $5 at a car show to check out the old cars. I was watching it one saturday when my buddy Steve came over. Steve is a pretty fine trumpet player and an orchestra director; the band my wife and I play in will sometimes call Steve when we need a horn section for a gig. He's not a car guy but as soon as he heard the background music he knew exactly who the orchestra was for the movie and borrowed the movie for his horn buddies to watch (listen).
I got a projector and a field, i wanna make a big screen and have my own drive in theater. I already do this in chairs but havent pulled any cars around to sit in. Anyone game?
I just got Hot Rods To Hell DVD off of Ebay the other day, I think this movie has the worst acting I have ever seen. Fun to watch though. I would like to know, why the corvette smokes so bad?
There was also the 1969 movie "Pit Stop". It's ultra low budjet black & white. A lot of over-the-top bar exploits with drunk racers but by far has the most and best Ascot Park Gardena filmed 1960s races of any film. It's all about figure-8 racing. Tom
